On 'Wings & Wheelz' show revs up crowd

Posted on September 15 at 7:09 a.m. ( Suggest removal )

Pete, I am not discounting what you say about rudeness being encountered by staff. I apologize for Wings & Wheelz to anyone who experienced that. As I said earlier, pre-registration indicated a small turnout except for possibly the drag. We did not anticipate 230 show cars + to show and 4000+ people to show up. The staff was overwhelmed. We are already planning, if the event takes place again next year, to triple, if not more, the volunteers who staff the event. Most of the volunteers were those who also volunteer at AirFEST. AirFEST had over 60,000 people attend this past May and all went fairly smooth considering. This was Wings & Wheelz first year, it can only improve! Food tix & lines were an issue and will definitely be changed for future events. The fact we had to turn show cars away due to lack of space is also another issue we are addressing for a possible event next year. The Drag, thanks to the group who helped us head it up, was fantastic! We did have Car Show & Drag race people assist us in these events. We also need to plan a date when 3 other major Fly-Ins in N. Illinois & Wisconsin are not taking place. Attendence by planes was truly affected by this. Any other questions, complaints or suggestions can be sent to g_conway5@yahoo.com. Please, we want to see the good, bad and the ugly! Thanks for your understanding.

In response to the drag costing $25 and then add'l charges after running the drag. That is false. The drag charge was $25 for ALL DAY RUNS! If you or someone you know were charged additional costs after being in the drag please contact Wings and Wheelz at 608-754-5405 IMMEDIATELY! The charge to get in for Drag was $25 and that was good for as many runs as you could get in from Noon - 4:00 p.m.
Please understand that this was the first year, many, many bugs to iron out. We appreciate all feedback and suggestions. We are NOT a sanctioned race track, it was purely for "the fun of it". If staff was rude, we'd also like to know the situation along with a description of that staff member. We know there was a backlog in Registration and the Food ticket/food area. This will be changed for future events. We truly did not anticipate the amount of attendees for show & drag. We had pre-registration with only about 6 for the drag and 12 for show cars. How do you look in your magic ball to see that 180 show cars would show along with 48 drag? WE apologize if your experience was not up to par but we will take ALL of your suggestions seriously and implement new systems for our next event, hopefully next year. Thanks for your understanding.

No receipt, no reimbursement. Quite elementary business practice, is it not? Though we are not talking about a "business" are we! Still, no documentation of money spent, absolutely no reimbursement!!!

On Road work begins on Highway 11 west of Janesville

If you are driving from Brodhead to JVL or even Orford/Footville to Janesville, take Footville/Hanover Road all the way to the Hwy 11 bypass. I take that every day, much better than the holes on Hwy 11.

Information: If homeowners were asked to leave their homes, they WERE compensated and given provided hotel accommodations for the length of time needed to be vacated. All were very welcoming of this. The aerobatic box is not all encompassing and those on S. River Rd. were not affected.

As for the church across the street, AirFEST contacted them and explained they'd be welcome to do exactly what they did. The minature golf course actually offered up their land for parking, if AirFEST needed it. The idea though of having people crossing the highway to get to AirFEST was a risk and decided against. But a Big Thank You to Mr. Markley and also Mr. Hughes for offering their land for parking, if needed.

As for the road closures on Knilians & Happy Hollow, that is strictly for public safety and aircraft safety, regulated by FAA.

Please, if you have questions or concerns or just don't know for sure, contact AirFEST to ask before spouting off on topics you may not know about.

Thanks to all of you who do understand that our military is fighting for our rights to be free and to host the Blue Angels is an honor. Remember these folks who consist of the Blue Angels (68 in total were at AirFEST), are ACTIVE DUTY military and can be called up and deployed at a moments' notice.

Sandman,
A point to correct. Wisconsin Aviation Academy, the recipient (along with 13 other area non-profit groups) of proceeds from AirFEST , provides unmatched opportunities to "underrepresented" youth to their program along with any others who apply. Underrepresented are females, minority's, low-income as well as high-income, white males, and any others. The program tries to allow those who could not ordinarily afford to send their child to an aviation program a chance to begin their aviation-life with us. Please contact Wisconsin Aviation Academy at 608-757-8082 for more information before blasting a program which you are NOT informed about.

If you would like stats, again, contact us. We've had kids graduate high school with their private pilot license earned through our Academy and went on to the Air Force Academy, University of North Dakota Aviation program, Mankato State University in Minnesota for Aviation, University of Dubuque for Aviation. We have the stats, please contact us.

As for taxpayers dollars spent on AirFEST, AirFEST pays all the performers for their performance. Yes, we pay the Blue Angels and provide their lodging, along with all the other military and civilian performers.

Please get involved before speaking words which are not true. Thank you

On Twilight talks

I also has missed the boat until just a couple months back. A young lady who is involved in an organization with me gave me the 1st book just over 2 weeks ago. I must admit, I was hooked instantly! I have since read all 4 books, finish the 4th this morning! I have not seen the movie, which I'd heard from several who have, that it was very good. I plan to watch it after it is out on DVD. I've also given my adult daughter my Twilight (yes, I bought all 4 now) and for someone (daughter) who doesn't read books, she also can't put it down. She has since began New Moon (2nd book). Just my opinion, but truly loved the series!!! Hoping there's more to come as well.
