I think the point that O.F. is trying to make is that if a farmer can "nary afford" his tractor, how is he able to pony up $1,000,000 for additional land?

Wait... a democrat who strives for smaller government? Isn't that the ultimate example of a paradox? What is this world coming to??
On A very positive local purchase

We've bought quite a few appliances at American in Madison, Wahl's, Sears and Brothers. However, we have been most pleased with purchases made at Rock County Appliance. No BS, good selection and advice, of course locally owned, and great prices. For the past 3 years it's the only place that we've shopped. I definitely will not buy from Wal-Mart, Home Depot, etc. They don't belong in the appliances business and other than just selling you the item, can't do much for you beyond that (service). Buy your stuff local at a store that can repair the items that you bought! This includes appliances, lawn and snow equipment, bicycles, etc. And, give these stores a chance. I was recently looking at an Arien snowblower at Mid-State. A friend told me the same item was cheaper at Home Depot. I simply mentioned this to the salesperson at Mid-State who immediately offered to match the price. I bought it there and was glad to know that more of my money would stay in the area rather than being shipped off to Atlanta.
And lastly, a shout out to (for)Plaza furniture who, unfortunately, is going out of business. We've bought lots of furniture there over the years and have always received quality items, great service and good prices.

Great story, but doesn't this blow the cover of anonimity? It is wonderful to see such examples of charitable givings in our areas. I know that there are many others who are as involved as Mr. Dimiceli. Many don't want to have their names published, however, for fear of the inevitable onslaught of those who consider themselves the most needy.

No matter what side of the arguement you're on, you should read/watch the link that vatoloco referenced prior: http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2010/09/1...
As I've said before, I don't mind the government taking more of our money, but they need to SPEND IT WISELY! And that is something they seem unable to do.

Wow bassman, maybe you should take your anti-depressants on a more timely basis. Where did it say that he doesn't focus on school? Some people can actually concentrate on two things at once. Sounds like a great way to spend his summer off. Better than playing WOW all day!

Ok, I must be totally missing the boat, so someone enlighten me please!
Re: Pennington estimated a 7.5 percent increase would mean a tax increase of $65 to $70 on a $112,000 house.
If my high school algebra still works, the above would mean that someone with a $112,000 house currently only pays $933 a year in taxes (a 7.5% increase on $933 equals $70). But I'm certain that a $112,000 house in Janesville pays much more in taxes than $933. I'd be willing to bet that the amount is closer to double of that. Can anyone explain to me what is wrong here?
On Do you support city’s bike trail system?

We love the trail. From our house we bike about a mile to Riverside Park and then catch the trail into town. How fortunate are those that live close to the trail. My family has biked, walked, roller-bladed, ran and long-boarded on it! What a great asset we have with this trail: it is well maintained (thanks to whoever keeps it clean and mowed), well-used and FREE for anyone to use! Thanks also to the company that stepped up and donated such a generous amount to make sure the trail keeps expanding!

On Janesville eyeing $1.5 million lot to start business park
Posted on December 8 at 9:01 a.m. ( Suggest removal )
Man, do some of you people even read the articles before commenting? Where does it say that the company would employ 100 people at $15,000 each?? While maybe not all the staff would be making this much, all articles have stated that the salaries at the high-end would be $50-60,000.
Other than the hospitals, have you seen any new business coming to Janesville in the last couple of years? Have you driven past Beloit on I-90 lately? In addition to Hormel, there is the Kerry group, a Staples distribution center, and there appears to be some additional construction going on behind those companies. In addition they just landed NorthStar Medical Radioisotopes and of course they also are the home of ABC supply which continues to grow. My point is, Beloit was hit hard as well when the GM plant closed down, but they are not sticking their heads in the sand and crying about every dollar that may now need to be spent. I dare say that they've attracted more new industries in recent years than Janesville has.
This land purchase would allow Janesville to court companies to locate here and then re-sell them the land. From what I read, it isn't a give-away program. I sure hope that if any potential companies are reading these blogs, they realize that the few knee-jerk posters that continue to bash any economic development on these blogs, don't represent the normal Janesville citizens.
