On Palin revs up Republicans for McCain

Wow Curlysue! Your 4:08 p.m. posting is so ridiculous, where does one start??
First of all, read your Constitution and your Declaration of Independence. The words “separation between church and state” are nowhere to be found in any US documents. The words are descended from the writings of Thomas Jefferson as he addressed the Danbury Baptists, a religious minority that feared a religious majority in their state of Connecticut might succeed in creating a state religion. Jefferson responded: "Believing with you that religion is a matter which lies solely between Man & his God, that he owes account to none other for his faith or his worship, that the legitimate powers of government reach actions only, & not opinions, I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should ‘make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof,’ thus building a wall of separation between Church & State."
In other words, the government is not to promote any national religion. But too many of you “liberals” feel that ideas from anyone that may have a religious connection are to be dismissed and even fought against, instead of trying to understand the reason behind their ideas. Such knee-jerk reactions will only serve to alienate the two sides even further.
No politician is able to “force” anyone to accept their religious beliefs. This is a great country that allows the presentation of ideas, discourse and, finally a vote by the majority to bring those ideas into laws.
On Democrats line up to challenge Ryan

Please! You’re saying that anyone, let alone the Democrats should be proud of coming up with that stimulus package? That was a ridiculous act! While I did not refuse my stimulus package check, I always thought it was asinine to give back over $150 BILLION dollars when we are so upside-down on our budget and trying to finance the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. I really didn’t remember whether that was a Democrat or Republican-led act (a quick Google search reminded me that Dem-star Pelosi was at the head of this), but if that is your best (and only) example of what the Democrats have done, then we are in a world of hurt!
On Museum price tag could be $7 million

"$648,000 a year to run the museum with a full-time staff of seven and revenues would come to $409,000." Isn't this just the way that government thinks? There is now way that anyone in the private sector would go for this, so why should our government? Right off the bat this thing is losing money. It just doesn't make sense.
On Council open on skatepark site

As one who has donated to the skate park and who will probably continue to do so, I doubt that I would continue to donate money if the plan was to put it in the area of the batting cages. My kids don’t skateboard, but if they did, I would not feel comfortable sending them there. I just don’t believe we would see many kids using it, and I think that it would eventually be abandoned. How many bars are located in that area? And I can’t get over the fact that supposedly there are 58 sexual predators living nearby!
City Manager Sheiffer mentioned that there are plans to develop a riverfront park in that area. I would like to see that become a reality BEFORE we move the skate park there. And thank you councilman Bill Truman who ‘hinted he’d like to find a way to give the skatepark some money’. It is time we make this a reality. For crying out loud: Beloit, Milton, Whitewater and even Delavan have outdoor skate parks. Why not Janesville!!?? As for the Palmer Park location I think it’s ideal. I can see a parent dropping off a couple of kids to skatepark and then playing a bit of tennis or taking a ride on the bike path themselves. Or letting one kid skateboard while the other plays at the Camden playground. I think this is what the Streichs had in mind.
It is imperative that we provide as much for our kids as possible. Good pools, the bike path, parks, basketball and tennis courts, playgrounds and even a great skate park will all make our city more desirable to live in. Providing such amenities will hopefully have our kids move back to town after they leave for college to raise their kids. We need a youthful town to attract companies looking to relocate or start their business. Besides, I really wouldn’t want to live in a town inhabited by only the old farts that keep posting their doom and gloom on these pages.
On How far do you think the trade for pitcher C.C. Sabathia will take the Brewers this year?

Speaking of the Cubs: I grew up outside Chicago and also Rockford. I have always been, and probably always will be, a Cubs fan. Now that I live in Wisconsin, I do root for the Brewers, but only when they're not playing the Cubs! Anyway, when I lived in Rockford, the sports on TV and in the paper would always report on the Cubs, the White Sox and the Brewers. What is it with the Wisconsin news sources? They rarely mention the Cubs or the White Sox. You can rarely find Cub news on these Gazette pages either! I know, I know, you Brewer fans are now gonna say something disparaging about the Cubs now, but seriously, there are a lot of Cub fans in this area, and whether Brewer fans like it or not, some coverage on the Cubs is warranted!

A horrible accident indeed. My thoughts and prayers go to the family. Just stating the obvious, so don't consider me insensitive: would it have helped had a man who writes tickets all day to drivers who don't wear seatbelts actually worn one himself??

I don't agree. I asked a carp the other day what the capital of Kansas was. He said Kansas City, when everyone knows it's really Topeka. I don't think they're all that smart.

Yea taylor, it’s all Janesville’s fault that you can’t find anything for your kids to do. Let’s see: you could go biking on the trail, fishing, Frisbee golfing, golfing, mini-golfing, flying a kite, playing baseball, basketball or tennis. I could go on and on. Quit yer whinin’!

Are some of you confusing Jessica with Britany? Aside from the tuna fish comments, she's actually done very well for herself. I don't listen to her music, but she has had some hit songs and been in a movie or two. Considering the industry that she is in, she seems to present herself quite well. Granted, she's not your Mother Theresa, but then, who is? Jessica is also not too bad to look at either!

Then, your remark about Palin is unbelievable! How old are you and are you male or female?? You sound more like a guest on Springer, than someone who is capable of expressing thought-provoking ideas on this board! While I am more a traditionalist, I nevertheless see the need for women in our workforce and appreciate what they do. I can’t believe that you have not yet been chastised by any liberal poster on this board for attempting to set the women’s movement back 50 years!
