The reason why this would have been a slap on the wrist 20 years ago is because this kid would have been a lot more fearful of getting a nice whooping when she got home.
GEEZ - what an idiot. I think this kid should be punished. This isn't a joke at all and a simple slap on the wrist isn't enough.

Did you ever think she was having a bad night and it just wasn't you? Or she was busy or was called into to work because someone called in sick?
Granted she shouldn't have acted that way to anyone - but don't just assume it's because you came in with your kids.
And (probably more importantly) complain at the time of the service instead of aftwards.

What I don't understand about this article is why the public is told in such depth about what Damon is experiencing emotionally wise and how he is coping. Simply stating that he is suffering would have been enough.
Damon attends a public school...students his age (or older) are able to read this. Kids can be cruel...who says this article won't be used to torment him in the future?
How he expresses his feelings, grieves for his mother, and copes with this horrific tragedy should be kept private - not paraded in front of an entire community.
