localboy: Really honestly unless you have more education than you seem to possess please read your post before sending them. Journalism is not about writing just the facts it is about telling the truth as the reporter sees it while representing true facts. As well as breaking stories down in words that people such as your self can comprehend. Just as in law, journalism is a balancing act and open to interpretation. I saw the news conference and so far I have not seen anything written that was untrue. It's a big deal in Janesville that GM is closing its news worthy to the people you count as ONE person. If you don't get it ask questions do not assume you have all the answers.
If you work or live in Janesville this affects you. If you work at GM or any company that directly serves GM time to take stock and find a new future rather than making accusations or wallowing in the breakdown to come. Many other cities around the nation live without GM we can do it too. There are a lot of other factories in this town. No the pay scale and benefits may not be the same. SO WHAT! You may have to start from scratch again. This is whatcha call life. When something knocks you down you don't flop to the ground like a two year old. You are supposed to be adults pick yourselves up dust yourselves off and push through till you find something else that meets your needs. Sometimes you just have to start fresh and it can be hard but you have to do it anyhow. Get an education find a new passion that turns a profit. By GOD please do not let this little town turn to dust.

Are people still really under the misguided assumption that "we the people" vote for presidents? We HAVE NO SAY. The electoral college puts a president into office. Idealogically it is supposed to be based on who "we the people" chose, but this has not been the case at all at the very least since 2000.

Look I don't work for GM but I do live in Janesville. My job will never be affected by anything that happens in Janesville because my customers are global not local.
I have a lot of interests in Janesville. The bottom line is that when GM closes down it is going to affect most of the Janesville families. From those who are directly hit at GM and companies who directly provide service to GM and the people who work at Kmart.
Five percent of Janesville's population works for GM thats quite a number. 5% who have families who have to shop for their needs at "kmart walmart woodmans target loglis and local gas stations ect" This is going to hit our local economy hard. The blame game needs to stop.
For those of you who actually think we elected Bush please go back to history class and figure out that we the people do not elect presidents. The electoral college elects presidents. Our government believes us to stupid to decide who our president should be.
We need to come up with another solution. My family may not be directly hit by GM but many of your families will be. Don't get angry get smart. All those who are being laid off use that time to get an education. Start planning for the future now. Don't wait around for the corporation and the city to tell you what your future should be. Make your own way!

This is a very interesting article. I think we just live in this world not because we want to, but that these companies who make us do it ourselves don't give us much of a choice. And really they are not cutting cost on anything by making us do it ourselves.
Its most definitely become a world where we have to have a computer in our home to do anything. I work from home so maybe I am different but my father has a computer in which he pays his bills, finds new friends, and keeps in touch with old friends. I remember back when gas was a buck fifty a gallon. I feel really old now thanks.
My point is these companies have found that they can make a bigger profit if they make us do it ourselves and since real people do not answer the phone when we would like to complain they do not have to care. Are you going to stop using cell phones because you have to speak to a computer are you going to stop using cable internet tv or telephones because you have to speak to the automated machine? I am not really sure we can live without these things anymore. I work from home actually answering the phone. I have worked with major cell phone companies and retailers that have decided it was cheaper to pay people in other countries to do what I do. Those people do not live the American lifestyle many of them in my line of work make 50 bucks a month they can not comprehend why I would be upset at paying 200 bucks a month for cable service and that its out and I want to know why and when it is going to be back up.
There are a lot of injustices right now and I think we all feel just a little powerless at this point.
