On Employers must know soldiers' rights

Also, if deployed make use of the Soldier's and Sailor's Relief Act. It will help you reduce interest on credit cards, mortgages and other loans. Unfortunately you have to shove it down credit card companies and bank's throats to have it enforced. They will do little voluntarily. A good power of attorney will help any spouses left behind as well.

The fact of the matter is gravy trains rarely last forever. While GM was riding high in the 1970s the union got greedy, and management did anything it could to appease the line workers to keep the cash cow ringing. Time has come to pay the piper. The question is how will Janesville recover from this? With good paying jobs being lost, home values will plummet, and when that happens your tax base will go down. When the taxes being collected go down, so does the quality of schools and governmental services. Just take a look to the south at Beloit after all their big plant closings. I guess my family and I got out of Janesville the right time a couple of years ago. My wife and I would laugh and shake our heads at all the people who would say ignorant things like, "I can care less if GM closes, I don't work there and it won't affect me." Time will tell on that.

As a recent returnee from Iraq I know for a fact it is much harder on the family of people over there since they constantly are worrying. At least I knew where I was at all times and what type of danger I was in. My wife and kids were not afforded that luxury.

Good luck and my heart goes out to these soldiers and their families. As a Navy Reservist who recently returned from a one-year mobilization to Iraq I can definitely sympathize.

No gravy train lasts forever. GM execs appeased the UAW workers in the 70's with pay increases when GM was riding high and they wanted to keep a good thing going at any cost. Unfortunately the time has come to pay the piper on that one. When over $2000 on every sale of a GM product goes towards pensions and benefits something is definitely out of whack.
