On Evansville police officer dies

Posted on September 30 at 7:29 p.m. ( Suggest removal )

My prayers ro to Pat and the rest of the Phillips family, Art was always a human being 1st, Police Officer 2nd in his professional career and was just a plain gentleman whether he was in uniform or not. Art was always helping, volunteering to make the Evansville Community better, by serving on the Eavansville Fire Dept for a number of years, serving the Evansville EMS and the other community boards and services already mentioned. Evansville was lucky to have a kind, gentle person such as Art, it must be true that the Lord only takes the Good ones young. Our prayers are with you Pat.

On DOT plans for winter emergencies

Posted on September 14 at 10 a.m. ( Suggest removal )

If the State Patrol would listen to more local officials in the future and be willing to work together, that would be a great start. The WSP has always been a bit better than the local 1st responders, that attitude showed up again last winter when the WSP would not listen to people who had more information and experience, again the "better thgan thou" attitude never helps anyone, especially the people are in need!!! Closing roads is taboo to the WSP unless they make the decision, this type of decision should be a combined decision by all emergency agencies, maybe the WSP has not heard of Unified Incident Command, taught by FEMA, if not they should take this course, it would benefit all involved.

On Edgerton fire chief resigns

Posted on December 4 at 8:36 p.m. ( Suggest removal )

John has done a lot for the Edgerton Fire District and has always been willing to work hard at building bridges and cooperation between Edgerton and other surrounding Fire Departments in Rock, Dane and Jeffrson Counties. We can learn a lot from John's style and continue what he has done in making us all better in the fire service for our citizens. Good luck John, wish you would reconsider, but totally understand your decision, I just hope your successor will have the skills you have employed in keeping your Department together with all of the continued controversy, as well as working closely with the neighboring Fire Departments

On Plan recommends 5 percent raises for state employees

I agree, the State Employees I know have not even kept with inflation over the recent 5 to 10 years, maybe longer. They deserve to have at least a 5% raise as their wages have not kept up the rate of inflation, which means they have been getting pay cuts. When you look at the cost of living over the past 5 to 10 years, the employees that I am familiar with have been getting 1% TO 2% per year while the cost of living has generally been 3% per year and no, I am not a State employee.

On Sheriff’s department plans extra patrols

I just wish the Rock County Sheriff had more resources(money) for extra traffic patrols throughout the County year round, I see Dane County is having deputies on duty just for traffic enforcement, Rock County could make all kinds of money if they would patrol Hwy 14 north of Evansville to the Dane County Line in the AM between 6:00 and 8:00. I know the Sheriff Dept. does the best they can with limited resources

On Four arrested after bank robbery, chase

I would like to also comment on how great the Law enforcement community appeared to work together, not only from within the Rock County Sheriff Dept and the Rock County municipal police agencies, but the agencies from Green County Wisconsin, the Winnebego County Sheriff, the Illinois State Police and the Wisconsin State Patrol. With the smaller budgets these agencies are receiving from us as taxpayers, the more gratifying it is to see them cross thier respective borders and work together. Kudos to the Rock County Sheriff and his deputies for working so hard and apprehending most of the convicts within the 1st couple of hours!!!
