As someone who has an inside track to the local media, I can tell you that there is MUCH more to Dr. Evert's early retirement than poor communication. However, I also feel that poor communication is a HUGE problem for any person in a leadership role, and should have been addressed sooner. However, the communication issue only came to a head with this current school board, as they refused to rubber stamp everything Dr. Evert wanted. Good for the board- keep it up!
My last comment is that I feel there are other highly compensated administrators, such as Dr. Salerno, who also suffer from some control/communication issues. As he was Evert's little pet, I would encourage the board to look into his communication abilities as well.
Good luck to Dr. Schulte. I am acquainted with Karen, I feel she is very bright and we could certainly use a female perspective in a leadership role.

The American people have spoken loudly and made a historic choice. I hope all you bloggers who are always going on and on about 'patriotism' and how us on the left are suppossedly 'unpatriotic' by expressing our first amendment rights, will do your patriotic duty and get behind President Elect Obama, who is generously offering out an olive branch. It's time to stop questioning one another and get to work solving problems. Obviously, Obama ran one heck of a campaign- I think that speaks volumes about how he can and will run this country and return greatness to the everyday in American.

On Tough times hit hard at Gazette

This blog site is full of uncreative ideas by those who wish the Gazette harm. I read daily posts about those who stopped their subscriptions or advising others of doing the same to "get back" at the Gazette for laying off individuals or not making available a full E-Edition to nonsubscribers. Posters are critical of the Gazette's every move.
STOP READING GAZETTE EXTRA IF YOU'RE SO OPPOSED. Some differ with the op/ed policy, some agree. It's not published to program or brainwash readers to agree with the view points. It's purpose is to give readers access to the full range of opinions out there today. Attackers of the Gazette's op-ed policy are not treated to these elements on the web. You have to actually pick up the print version. So you come to Gazette Extra and you still don't like it. Grow up!
It's getting old reading the rhetoric. Web page views are way up (I'm sure) and circualtion is down. Yet the same posters flock to Gazette Extra every day. If you don't like what you read, stop reading it.
Ahh, yes. You've found a way to get your news for free. Now you don't have to pay. Or so you think. What will happen now with fewer news resources? Will there be more coverage or less coverage? More stories or fewer? What about the number of photos? So you found a way to "trick" the system and get if for free. How will this affect Gazette Extra? I bet the same print reporters and photographers were responsible for web content, just as they were print content. Now your free news has just become less free news.
Project the equation out a few more years. What will Gazette Extra offer? Maybe many more news employees are gone and coverage and content are greatly compromised, verging on minimalization. You get what you pay for.
Be careful what you wish for. Because it just came true.
On Parents say they were left in dark during lockdown

I totally agree that the police acted appropriately by issuing a lockdown. I also agree with a previous statement that the communication process is in need of MAJOR improvement. My daughter, currently a student at Marshall, was in a lock down at Harrison a year and a half ago and it was like pulling teeth to get any information from either the district office or the police. In fact, when I called the school district office, I was told that the person in charge of communications to the public was 'on break'. On BREAK?!!! In the middle of a school lockdown???!!!! WHAT???!!!
Also, the article mentioned that 'messages' were left with parties at the radio station/the paper. That is no way to communicate. The people responsible for communication with the media should never 'leave a message' in a crisis situation- they MUST INSIST on speaking to someone personally.
Finally, what about creating a text/email data base that can be activated when lockdowns occur to inform parents? I know Marshall already maintains an email data base of parents for newsletters and the like so it would seem as if that data base would have been activated yesterday? I have not yet received any word from Marshall on the email regarding this incident. I find that odd.

What a beautiful story! I hope my husband and I can go to heaven together, too, after many, many, many years of marriage.
I am irritated, however, by commentors who feel compelled to 'go negative' and link this great story to their belief that people 'give up' on marriage too soon. As a divorced person, I take great offense to the constant badgering of divorced people on this website. I worked very hard to save my marriage, but a marriage can't last if there is only one person doing all the work. A marriage can't last if one of the members wants out. Divorce is very hard- I hope that none of these 'holier-than-thou' commentors ever have to experience the pain of divorce. However, if they do, God forbid, perhaps it will teach them a lesson in compassion and understanding.

Mr. Angus-
I am thoroughly disgusted by the sewer that these comment boards have become. When the new website was originally launched, the comments were interesting and sparked conversation. Since then, however, this has become a forum to bash people covered in the news, as well as fellow commentors. I feel that this website has degraded not only the value of the news that the Gazette SHOULD be being paid for- not giving away for free- but also has degraded the Gazette's image in the community by allowing these horrible comments. I strongly feel that the Gazette reconsider the number of comment board that are allowed as well as the amount of free content allowed on the website. The Gazette will be no more if you keep giving away your product, which is the news. I don't know of any other business that can give away their product and stay profitable, do you????
At a social event last weekend, I was shocked by the number of people who now REFUSE to go onto the Gazette website because they find the comment boards so offensive and upsetting. I realize that you are quite fond of the website but perhaps you should reconsider that position.

I really can't believe people are still posting about this! OMG! Let it go- worry about your own lives!
And stop using religion to justify being judgmental! Jesus would have broken bread with ANYONE involved in this case- just keep that in mind before posting more hateful comments.

On Obama’s unmacho diplomacy
Posted on April 8 at 9:38 a.m. ( Suggest removal )
Here's the thing.... Obama is smart. All you critics can't change that face and that is what makes you so mad.
We have to rebuild fences before they will work. Bullying, like we had for the past 8 years, was a nightmare and immature. I certainly respect the right to an opinion but try to keep an open mind when reviewing Obama's performance. I would hardly call him a failure- maybe that's what is really getting to you- he's been pretty fantastic and well received so far...
