As the parent of students who take honors and AP classes, a required study hall would be a blessing. It would certainly help remove the stigma of having a study hall.

This article is great and hopefully parents will take it to heart! Everyone wants their kid to be good at whatever they participate in, but you need to keep things in perspective. A couple of years ago at Parker, administration had to hire a staff "chaperone" to sit near a basketball dad that was way over the top. That dad should not have been allowed in the gym if he needed a private babysitter.

Since you plan to pay the subs more, why not give them appropriate training which would not include not sitting behind the desk reading books with their feet up, talking on their cell phones, learning procedures for the building they are in, actually covering the teacher's plans, or not sitting on a computer during class. I am speaking in reference to high school subs that my children have had.

They do need to be tougher on drunk drivers. A young woman listed in today's police report had a first drunk driving in June, an underage the beginning of July, and now a drunk driviing this past Tuesday at 8 a.m.

As I get older, even with dental insurance, the out of pocket costs are very high. One root canal and the insurance is used up. Then, the next $1,000 or more for the crown is out of pocket. That procedure more than once a year is devastating.
