Here's an idea, if you cannot afford to pay the utilities, do not say they are included in the rent. That seems pretty simple. It sounds like he under priced what he was asking for rent and included too much. For the people who paid the rent it would be insanely unfair for them to become homeless due to negligence on the part of the landlord. And while it sounds really fun to just live without electricity to come closer together and save hundreds of dollars, etc..., it is against city ordinances to do so. And what about those of us that need electricity to power life-saving/preserving CPAP machines just to sleep safely with sleep apnea or other medical equipment that may require electricity? And what about the children of these people? Did they ask to be born? They should not be punished because of the actions of all of the irresponsible adults around them. Have a heart folks! Could the city not make an exception to the stupid ordinance so these people do not become homeless? And I do not accept that this landlord is not paying the utilities because people have not paid rent. It's just plain crazy that he would wait until things got this bad. Sounds like negligence. And I'm willing to bet there are many reasons he takes in people other rental properties won't. Is he Mother Theresa or a slum lord? They are not too picky about who they rent to because they feel they can get away with not fixing things and letting the buildings fall into disrepair, etc... because they look the other way on credit, background and other checks at the time of rental. There are legal avenues one can take when rents are not paid. Why did he not take them? Laziness or altruism? Alliant energy should also allow him to get these properties on a payment plan. Do leases just become invailid because he neglected to pay the bill? And if he did not take proper legal action when the rents were not paid that is his fault not the tenants. There are steps that need to be taken under these circumstances. Although they should be paying rent. But shame on him for letting them get away with it for so long! And if you let one get away with it, you have to let them all. At any rate, these people should not be homeless!
On Ordinance would regulate the display of sexual materials

StaceyU2, how many kids do YOU have teeenage and younger? Are they girls? I am just curious because I as a parent of girls that age do not feel this is censorship, I feel it is in good taste and common sense to not display such items to kids. There are a lot of t-shirts, jewelry etc... that is geared toward younger people there so they should have an area where kids can freely view those items without having to see sex toys! Honestly, why is that so much to ask? Should this even be a conversation? And I think it is a shame you have such negative opinions of the Church during Holy week. It's sad that you see us that way. Did you ever think maybe Christians don't feel that way, maybe you just feel a bit defensive or paranoid? You are so open minded, why not consider that?
On Janesville woman to stand trial on attempted homicide charge

This woman has at least one child old enough to be reading this so why don't all of you consider that and stop speculating? Only God knows what really happened. I am sure her daughter does not need to be reading all of these theories though. Have some consideration & compassion!
On Clinic board approves plan for late-term abortions

As a person who has participated in peaceful protests against abortion I can attest to the fact that the "pro-choicers" act in obscene ways deliberately taunting peaceful God loving people who are desperately trying to get through to the abortionists, "clients" and staff at death mills. I have decided that the power of prayer is the only way this hellish practice will ever end in this country. We put a president in office that endorses late term abortion yet professes to be a Christian so all I can say is that all of you out there that want this to stop need to take this to Jesus as many times a day as you can. Let it be a constant prayer. If we all did this I believe this would change. Politics, actions of individuals etc..., God controls it all... and we have to let go and go to Him in prayer and supplication. Trying to fight this in our own power has not worked. And pray for the poor lost souls who think this is OK. "Forgive them father for they know not what they do" is all I can say.
On Couple charged in child abuse case

What is chilling to me is look into the eyes of these two. Do you see any expression at all? Remorse, fear...anything? An old friend of mine used to call these "dead fish eyes", and they are indicative of the state of these two twisted individual's souls. Why would the DA not consider them a flight risk? Why would the bond be so low? We are told to never use corporal punishment but these two can make that poor little girl's brain bleed and walk away from this? Kind of says how much we as a society value our young. How much must Stephanie hate herself that she would want to kill her own child? Your child is a part of you so when you hurt your child you hurt yourself. I see no red eyes from crying, no fear, no sadness. Just a blank soulless stare. And the man trying to look all bad & stuff. I hope these two suffer the ultimate punishment for what they have done. We should all pray that justice will be done in this case. Far beyond that they get to be publicly labelled for the twisted malignant hate filled poisonous vipers they are inside.

Hey, seriously, my kid goes to school with one of this couple's children and she is very upset and frightened. Why don't all of you armchair sleuths knock it off, huh? This kid is probably reading your off the cuff remarks and while you wax witty and cynical she is in real pain.
On Pawnshops, quick loans gaining popularity
Posted on December 14 at 1:44 p.m. ( Suggest removal )
Many times as in my case the people working for these loan/pawn shops are not the owners who will directly benefit from a person taking a loan. The are not vultures, just working people trying to stay employed in order to feed their families. The loan store I ran went out of business in Feb. and since then no other business in Janesville (except a business with a very part-time position) has been willing to hire me. Say what you want about these places, more times than not the employees are saddened to see people struggling in such hard times and these places do provide local employment to a number of people who do not possess degrees and are not "marketable". If you closely examine any business you can find an element of the unsavory. Is it better to sell liquor to drunks or cigarettes to nicotine addicts? How about junk food to obese people? It broke my heart to see people who were in financial and personal crisis every day. I cared about my customers and tried to encourage them to buy down or pay off as soon as possible. But then maybe that's why my location went under. Who knows?

My kid goes to an area middle school and knows a mom that smokes weed with her 14 year old girl, lets her drink and spend the night at a boys house regularly. Where do you suppose she's headed? A future in sales?
