On Mercy leader learned ideals at a young age

Posted on January 20 at 12:24 a.m. ( Suggest removal )

Anyone aware of the clear conflict of interest in him paying a family member to produce art and design work for the renovations at a hefty price tag? And why would they be so stupid as to remove televisions from the waiting rooms? That was the only thing that made the interminable wait times mildly tolerable. What a dumb move.

On Janesville teen dance club wants to provide fun and safe choices

I hope he is vetting his voluteers to weed out the pedophiles. Also, I hope he keeps the drama out of his club. It is a good idea to rent out space, but he would make more if he offered theme birthdays, etc...I miss the roller rink!

On Icy roads cause school and transit delays

Posted on February 21 at 6:26 a.m. ( Suggest removal )

So, it was not a priority for the schools to be open Friday, but on a day that is genuinely dangerous for them to be there, there is a 1- hour delay? True to form, Janesville is having school, no matter how dangerous it is for the teachers and students to be on the roads and sidewalks! Oh, and every other school; they got at least a 2-hour delay. I hope nothing happens to anyone trying to get to school today, and if something does, I hope the people that made this judgement call (severely lacking in good judgement), are taken to task. They probably will not be though.

On Protests 'just the tip of the iceberg'

How is it possible that a teacher, with a median income of $55,5000. cannot afford this? If the younger teachers who make less money would be too affected, then take more from the people who make more and have made the most and find other ways to cut the budget, like relying on daylight instead of artificial light in public buildings.Stop holding our childrens educations hostage and running to Madison to throw your little hissy fits! This is too stupid. Send an efficiency expert to all of the schools and then take the recommendations they make to heart. Stop wasting so much money on stupid stuff. It is not rocket science guys!

On Janesville schools closed Friday

So, we do not close down schools in sub-zero conditions-complete with slick roads that could possibly endanger the lives of students and teachers alike, but we close the schools because teachers want to make sure they do not pay into their OWN benefits programs like so many in the private sector do? Why are they better than a person working at a private company that has to pay a certain amount in to keep benfits? I appreciate our teachers enough to think outside the box. Save money by cutting the artificial light used in schools when possible. Eliminate paper as much as possible by sending assignments to kids in PDF format, take away a shameful amount of sick days, find other ways "to skin this cat." There are many ways we can save money. Have families make more of a contribution, such as 1 ream of paper per student per year to save on materials. Schools waste so much money every year on stupid programs that could be cut to save money. Make the necessary cuts! Instead of paying a teacher to sit and do parent-teacher conferences, have them communicate via telephone or e-mail, one call per day, during the regular school day. All of these teacher in-service days could be curtailed. If my child is required to make this time up, because the teachers are holding the childrens' educations hostage, I can assure you, I will not co-operate. This is juvenile, selfish, stupid behavior at best. We should be working on solutions, not just stomping off to Madison to have a hissy fit!

On Elkhorn emergency services plagued with problems

Posted on January 4 at 1:17 p.m. ( Suggest removal )

Well if the rescue squads were not so busy carting drunks up to Mendota at a huge cost to tax payers, maybe there would be more squads available when calls come in. When you only have intermediates available and you need a skilled paramedic and they are out carting a drunk up to Tellurian or wherever, what do you expect? I say use that huge fancy law enforcement center as a drunk tank and staff an RN full-time. It's right across the street from Lakeland hospital, so that should not be a problem. Let all of the drunks stay at the LE center in Elkhorn until they sober up and then cart them wherever in groups on a bus once they are sober. Don't take skilled paramedics out of service to play chauffer to drunks. That would be a start. Then sue and garnish the wages of the people who do not pay their ambulance costs. And why are EMS services not covered by taxes in Elkhorn? God knows the property taxes are sure high enough! Gosh, get with the times folks. I had a relative that needed EMS in Lafayette township and it took forever! I do not think it helped that it took so long to transport her. But then again it was New Year's eve so of course, all of the EMS workers were out carting drunks!

Too bad some people will sacrifice just about anything to try and prove they are right boombah or to try and have the last word. SOOOOOO SADDDDD! :)

Boombah, dude, get over it! Gary was conveying a sentiment of a citizen. Period. NEXT! Why does everyone hear any reference to Nazis and Hitler and freak out? It WAS part of history and we can learn from history. The extermination of six million human beings took place and we are stupid if we try to ignore it. Those that do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it.Gary was not calling his future empolyees Nazis or brown-shirts, he was coveying the sentiment of a citizen about the current administration at the sheriff's office. Quit twisting his words. And the fact that he has the heart to make and place his own signs is a testament to his desire to have that job, not his inexperience. Ayone who says that his making and placing his own signs at 65 years old, means he is inexperienced is quite mistaken! Nice try though.:)

Really, I am starting to wonder why some of you readers have such a selective memory. Gary did not call anyone a Nazi. Period. Stick a fork in it, it's done. And if you do not think Gary shows a large enough display of energy at public rallies all I can say is you do not know him very well. He fabricates and places his own signs all over the county. Think that does not take some energy? I would be willing to bet many of the fine readers of the Gazette couldn't do that without breaking a sweat! He works and takes care of and is the spiritual head of his family and he still runs all over creation placing his own signs. He is not a talker, he's a doer and that seems to be upsetting to some. Maybe the whole Nazi thing would stop being brought up if anyone could think of anything more interesting to say. There is plenty that could be said about others but that is not the way some of us "roll".

I read this and all I can think to myself is "What"? Spoden is so wonderful? I think you are all lacking in specific knowledge about the incumbent. And the "sharp as a rock" comment should be applied to whomever wrote it. Oh and by the way, Gary has engaged in quite a bit of community service through his church but has ethical issues with listing those things as a feather in his cap because the way he views it, I am sure, is that those are things he does for God and he will not list those things because that is part of his Christian duty. Trust me, he does plenty!Clearly none of you people know him and the person who is changing his vote because Gary is relaxed, would you rather have a panic struck namby pamby in office? Would that show a true desire to win? I don't think so!
