On Man is suspect in father’s beating

There's definitely nothing wrong with how the Gazette reported the story. Media outlets do it every day. When someone is charged with a crime or arrested, that becomes a public record. It's not always fair, I'll give you that, but that's the way the system is set up.
My beef with this story is that the reporter somehow is trying to connect this case with the case of Swope, who murdered his parents. I don't think anybody involved in this case is claiming this kid planned to kill his dad. He's not going to be charged with murder like Swope was. The DA even says so in the story. To try to attach the two as being somewhat similar is goofy by the reporter and the newspaper. How do we know this wasn't an argument or a fight gone horribly wrong? How do we know the dad didn't attack the son? All those facts have yet to come out.

On Brett Favre retires after 17 seasons

If anybody thinks Ted Thompson is to blame for Favre's retirement, they're nuts. I'm as much a fan of No. 4 as anybody, but where is it written that the GM must "beg" anybody to come back, which didn't happen according to his agent? In the grand scheme of things, Favre was a player, not a coach, not an executive, and certainly not the GM. It was his job to play, and it wasn't TT's to call him and woo him back. I loved watching him. He gave us all great memories, but the sun will rise again, hopefully tomorrow (depending on this great Wisconsin winter we're having). Give Rodgers a chance. ... think back to 17 years ago when an unknown kid whose name was spelled "Farve" by many stepped onto the Lambeau Field turf for the first time. You never know how things will turn out!
