On Janesville's rental vacancy rate a worry

I guess with all the rambling I just did, I am just trying to point out that landlords need to give people a chance and they wouldn't have empty rental property. Plain and simple.
On Janesville's rental vacancy rate a worry

I have rented in Janesville for 30 of my 48 years here on earth. I have dealt with slumlords and landlords who care. I will tell you there are more money hungry slumlords than ones who care. Just an example: 2 adults in a one bedroom apartment that costs $700 monthly, $150 for power and lights, $60 for water every 3 months, basic home phone, approx. $30.00 a month all on an income of less than $1500 a month. Doesn't leave much to buy groceries, gas, laundry, basics, car payment, etc. Then like luckyduck said, look at the rentals in the Gazette, some are over $2000 a month! That is ludicrous in this economy and especially in Janesville, I would love to call these landlords and ask them "who in the h_ll do you think can afford that amount of rent?" With this economy people are moving in together, families or just renting out rooms or basements to others to help pay the bills. It is a never ending circle with no door to get out of. As for the lady with the daughter who has a felony on her record, who cares? If I was a landlord I would consider what the felony was for, maybe have the parent co-sign and then go visit where she lives now. A drug dealer can have perfect credit and a huge bank account but that doesn't mean they are good tenants just because they have money. I would base it on how they take care of the bills where they live now and how well they keep their home/apartment they are leaving. I don't even care if it is an eviction because you will never know why they were evicted in the first place. Could even be just that the landlord/slumlord had a bug up their butt and want the people out so they can get new tenants and charge more rent. I know I am babbling but the issue of rentals is a mystery to me, why are landlords so anal? Just asking.

Nemesis, lets see, we would save 24.00 a year not paying union dues. Wow, I can get a subscription to the Gazette for a week and a half! Taxandspend, private sector workers are the only true wage earners? WHAT? You don't think the fire fighter that saves your relatives life is worth their weight in gold? I do. Or the teacher who teaches your kid how not to grow up to make stupid comments like you do?

Are you guys sure that kaysbrew, grandy and wislady are not all from the Walker administration? I believe they are, and do you also notice that most times, they are on one article and talking of another one! Must be confusing to try to keep up and not duplicate each others comments. That is why they are always on here, they have all the time in the world to worry about the Gazette posts and not the poor state of affairs Wisconsin is in!

Ronald, get off the GM kick that went out a long time ago. Teachers dumbing down our kids? I think you need to look more to the parents who don't help with homework, help at school or really give a rats butt about what their kids learn as long as they are gone 8 hours a day! Our country needs these folks..teachers, firefighters, police, nurses, doctors, the list goes on. Why should we deny them what they rightfully earn? Could you do their job? I am sure I could not. I feel for every last one of them, union or not. Read the paper, this is not only going to affect the unions, it will also affect nonunion. Wait, it will come down to everyone, even you!

People, you just don't get it, do you? Teachers, firefighters, police, all positions who teach us and keep us safe. They don't work at Stop N Go or WallyWorld, they help run our country the right way. What is so hard to understand about that? Even a teacher nowadays take risks going to work with the kids today. I believe they deserve every penny they make and more. Enough with the jealousy, that is all it is.

Just because someone is in a union DOESN'T mean they don't work hard or as hard as the arrogant private sector worker does. My dad, all 120 lbs of him lifted semi tires on a daily basis at Jatco, he worked damned hard and earned every penny he made. Every one of these articles comments just get more and more selfish as the selfishness of our government sets in!!! Sad to see. This is not even a fight about unions, it is white collar versus blue collar and you all know it! Stuffed shirts compared to people who really WORK for a living.

Sigma, create your own fun. I do. Read a book, sit on the porch and chat with neighbors, go fishing, etc. Not everything cost money. I love fishing and I love reading. This is where our kids/grandkids get the statement "I'm bored!" Find something to do or be bored, it is your choice.
