On Janesville school officials to review four elementary schools for closing

I am a Jefferson parent and for anyone worried about this please call your principal. I talked to ours today and he said the article is a bit misleading. The two schools that plans are being made for, but ONLY to see what it looks like (not a for sure thing AT ALL) are Roosevelt and Wilson. These are only plans to see if it COULD help, nothing is written in stone. Please do not let this article make you worry!
On Janesville School District to cut $6.5 million

I wonder how many of the people complaining have children? I wonder how many of you go out to eat on a weekly basis or blow money in other ways? I see some of these teachers come into the school at 6am and not leave until 6pm. I see how dedicated most of them are, and now we want them to take a cut? Or we want to take opportunities away from students? Education must be a first priority if we want any future for this town or country! Why don't we cut athletics? Is this because of the silver spooned parents who cannot let the competition go (we all know how sports are in Janesville)? Why do we want better athletes and not smarter children? Why not take some money from the ic e arena budget? Why not apply for some federal grants? If I remember right our President's first priority is education? It's sad to me people are complaining about having to pay more, but are willing to throw money at other things LESS important. OUR children deserve the best education possible!! In a city that has been hit hard economically you would think education would be on the top od the priority list to avoid more rise in crime!?

and...what will the children who do still believe think or feel like when "Santa" does not bring their brother or sister anything just because they are a teenager? How will the question, "why didn't Santa bring you anything be answered"? You expect the response to be he only brings presents to little kids?

nscr17, your comment saddens me. My 3 children, husband, and I take one tag for each of us every year. We shop together and make it a thing we do as a family. This year there were a lot of teenagers. We decided to ONLY take the teenagers because of people like you. So, on Christmas morning the teenager should be led to believe that his or her parents or parent decided to only buy for the children who still believe in Santa? Are you kidding me? They are expected to stand up and be more mature than most adults nowadays? The YWCA not only has the parents fill out tags for their children, but also themselves. Most parents asked for gas cards, dishes, or necessary items. Also to add, our family knows what it is like to be on assistance and have to ask for help. We have been there, and give what we can back. When giving comes from the heart, there should NOT be conditions:)

scooter I am sorry this has happened to you. The man who hurt me also was never arrested. This proves that the sex offender website is not very effective. The men who have never been caught are the ones people should worry about.

scooter, are you aware that the word "sex offender" does NOT mean a person hurt a small child? Do you know the difference between a phedophile and a hebophile? Society has taken the words sex offender and assumes the worst. I think there needs to be a website for phedophiles who are likely to hurt someone again. I have been a victim and as a victim I do not want to be forced into unecessary fear. Putting all sex offenders on a website and simply stating the crime still does not tell the whole story. A boy who was 17 that slept with a 14 to 15 year(with concent) old 20 years ago is not someone who is going to hurt your 3 year old, but the 2nd degree sexual assualt that is listed makes society believe he will. Now the 30 year old man who molested a girl under the age of 10 should be listed. Do you see the difference? The drunk drivers that have been caught 5 times will likely be on the streets tomorrow drunk putting everyone at risk. There is no scenerio that explains the 5 arrests of drunk driving. It is cut and dry. I also believe men who have a history of abusing women should be listed.

So scooter, if comparing a sex crime to a drunk driver is not fair then what happens when that drunk driver kills someone? Killing someone is not just as horrible as rape? At least with this website they individualized the cases unlike with the sex offender site. When I look at the site I know each person has had 5 OWIs. The sex offender site just promotes unecessary fear because of it's lack of explaining each case's individualized circumstances. Sigma, I do agree a picture of their car would make more sense. No, it might not stop them from driving, but it does take away their privacy and put a label on them they do deserve. It also could be used as a deterent for the individuals who have had 3 or 4 arrests to stop before they too are put on the site.

Kinda funny everyone is all for posting every sex offender on the web (including the ones who are NOT a threat), but not for posting pics of people who drive on our streets drunk? I think it is a great idea! I would rather know the faces of people (and bars to know the faces) who are risking our lives everyday than the faces of people who slept with a girl who was 16 when they were 18 or the man who flashed someone! If I see a person on the website who lives by me, I will keep my eye out for them driving!! People who have had FIVE arrests for OWI apparently have not learned a lesson and they need everyone watching them!! These people have ALREADY done jail time, treatment, and more than likely the blow stick in their car. If that wasn't enough to stop them, then something else has to!! I guess I shouldn't be shocked that more people of good ole Janesville are against this! I mean hey, drinking and driving is promoted everywhere in this town! You want to go to a hockey game and have a beer? Go ahead! Then you can drive home with your kids in the back seat! I mean really, where is the common sense people!??!!

Kudos to the gazette for this decision. As big of a problem as bullying is with our chilren in this society, we should also be held to a higher standard as thier example. I believe children learn this behavior somewhere, and when they see us adults be nasty to one another, they are sure to believe they should be able to be also. I think it's sad that the gazette had to go to this extreme because people could not just see how their words could hurt another. If we all just practiced a little common sense and remembered what we try to teach our kids "treat others the way you would want to be treated" things wouldn't have to go this far.

I agree Wilson should be the last option. Too many children walk and have no other way to school. I was just trying to add that there is way more to this than what the article stated. Jefferson is at MAX capacity FYI. There is also not any schools within a 2 mile radius for the children to go to, that is what tey have to look at. As for the $2,000 someone suggested we should pay, well I am here to tell you I do not have that. We live on LESS than that a month!! We have three children and barely get by. On top of us BOTH working, I am a full time student. If I could AFFORD to go on vacation or pay 100 a month on cable or cell phones I would also give that up! I swear some people are just plain blind to other people and the REALITY of what is going on around them! Here, how about we leave the stupid ice arena alone and put the money into our children's education!? I understand this is a possibility, and may be what is needed. I just hope they really think it through and make sure kids are safe before they do it, and the Gazette would print ALL of the information or none at all. We all are already stressed with what is happening, adding to that is just not nice at all!
