On Bullies, bullies everywhere

Posted on March 28 at 2:18 p.m. ( Suggest removal )

How do you know that your child is not a bully? I am certain that the parent of the kid who attacked my son in the school bathroom a few months ago would say her son is not a bully...I disagree. My son is bullied mercilessly at school and often what I hear is that "boys will be boys" and they are desensitized to violence because of video games and tv. So the parents who keep their kids away from these things are "asking" for their kids to be bullied?!?!?

BTW Kidlets2...my son also plays sports and some of the worst bullying he and others get is from teammates! There are many kids whose parents don't let them ride the bus to games because of what happens on the bus. As for the schools response, these kids are taught very young that it's okay because when their parents complain that "THEIR" child is being singled out for punishment for these acts, the school backs off. It really does start with parents making their kids take responsibility and enforcing appropriate behavior.

On An eye-opener regarding public employees

Posted on December 16 at 3:51 p.m. ( Suggest removal )

When you talk about these abuses in the private sector it is VERY different than public employees...if I as a private sector employee embezzle, cheat, defraud the company I work for, YOU as a tax payer do not foot the bill. When a public agency does the same we all pay higher taxes...that is a very significant difference. Investigating these abuses is not "picking" on public employees, it's the responsibility of every taxpayer to know where their money is going and ensure it is being used appropriately.
Any reasonable public employee went into the job knowing they were accountable to their employer....THE TAXPAYER....don't like it - find a new job where you will still be accountable to your boss.

On Wells Fargo will close 15 Wis. loan offices

As a Wells Fargo "customer" I have to disagree Dreec. Due to some past (8+ years ago) credit issues we have a VERY high interest loan through WF, last year when we both lost our jobs we tried to refi now that our credit is 90% repaired, got through most the paperwork after my husband lost his job and before I did...would have cut our payments by $600 a MONTH....crazy uh since we were also cutting 10 YEARS off the term...then I lost my job and they pulled the plug! I have been in contract/temp positions for the last year earning $20k more than WF says I need to to refi but since it's temp they won't touch it...tell how it is right to charge an insane intrest rate based on no longer relevant credit issues because in this economy companies would rather higher contract workers.

We took out high interest car & home loans with WF as part of the rebuilding process....both with the promise of a refi in a year once we had a solid track record & improved credit...we did our part and 3+ years later we are still being told no.

On ‘Deadbeat dads’ is term unfair to caring fathers

CS payments DO NOT have to come directly out of your paycheck. In fact during a separation I received payments directly AGAINST his wishes in court because I requested it and there there was no reason not to. In fact he made an agrument about having documentation and wanted to mail it, the judge looked at him and said your check is documentation. There is a lot of leeway in the courts.

On Dad found not guilty in shaken-baby case

a HISTORY of violence does not automatically mean someone committed a violent act. If I recall correctly from prior articles, he admitted shaking the baby when he realized something was wrong - given that I would guess there was compelling questions as to his guilt for him to be found innocent. Regardless, the judge & jury had information that is not in any of the articles by which to make their decision, that's how the legal system works.

Not sure why these comments have to turn into personal attacks but apparently that is the Janesville way.

As far as the comments on judging people and their choices, as a voting, tax paying citizen I ABSOLUTELY have the right to question where my tax dollars are going and to insist that there be some responsibility in the handing out of those dollars. These are public programs, supported by public funds that come out of the working publics budgets. I fully support assitance programs for those truly in need but because there are so many people out there that don't even want to help themselves too often when an otherwise independent person falls into a TEMPORARY situation beyond their control there is nothing left for them.

Bottom line for me whether it through my tax dollars or directly from me, if you don't want me in your business and judging it - then don't expect me to pay for it. You can't have it both ways, if you want public support that needs to come with public scrutiny.

On GM offers buyout to laid-off workers

A further note on taxability of lump sum payments, the initial withholding may be 33% BUT in the end it is taxed at your normal income tax rate. ie 33% of a 20k payment is $6600 now if you are in the 20% tax bracket the actual tax is $4000 meaning an additional $2600 would be refunded at tax time.

On GM to end 'jobs bank' Monday

Shocked to see yet another GM story and hear about what they are losing that they paid dues for. Where's the article about the great guys at Local 95 that weren't even going to show up for negiotiaions with Alcoa for the UAW members there that are about to lose their jobs and have also paid their dues but don't seem to get anything for that. Heck they can't even get grievences resolved after YEARS of filing the same ones and haing them sit. Equal representation for ALL UAW members...yeah right if you aren't GM you don't count at Local 95.

On Woman claims husband enjoyed abusing twin sons

Uh did you actually read the article??? The part that said REPEATEDLY that MOM has been investigated for child abuse - many times including since the death of this baby???? Not that I presume to know at all what happened or who may have done what to 2 innocent infants but I wonder how much mom's continued appearences in the child abuse spotlight contributed to her change of story. It seems to me she had plenty of chances to flip from he's a great dad to he's really a sick SOB and didn't. Even women that are battered for years often rationalize that as long as it's not their kids they can stay but that is a line they don't let be crossed seriously what kind of mom sticks up for someone that KILLED their infant. BTW did I miss the part of the story about mom being abused and therefore afraid to come forward???
