On Your memories of 9/11

Posted on September 1 at 6:59 p.m. ( Suggest removal )

I was in 8th grade at the time. It was first hour and I think our teacher got a call to turn on the TV. I watched in shock. My teacher was frantically trying to call her husband and I was beginning to worry about planes hitting Chicago or other places. It was difficult to wrap my mind around what was happening. Classes resumed slowly through the day, but 8th grade seems to be a pivotal point in a person's life...growing up and seeing adult problems. This shaped the future for many of us.

This is an awesome idea. I remember participating in the 30 Hour Famine at a church in Janesville and we had so much fun. We played games and learned about others in third world countries. We forgot we were hungry. I think the toilet thing is a great idea to fundraise. We collected canned goods for ECHO.

mytake4u - Thank you for NOT criticizing anyone on here, besides me of course. I understand where you are coming from, but it isn't right to generalize everyone who is Muslim...they are not all bad people. I would know because half of my family came from the Middle East. So excuse me for having a problem with your comment. And I respect what every service man and woman is doing over there to protect the U.S. Get the bad guys...but not everyone over there is bad.

mytake4u - The comment made about Ramadan was a little off topic and kind of offensive/disrespectful. To some people Ramadan is a holiday (even though it occurs over a month).

mmof3: No one is actually arguing whether Craig or Parker is better...they are arguing over what year freshman were moved to the high schools... Also, some lunch privledges are earned by students. Some get double lunches for not being late to class. But that is only for juniors and seniors.

Wow, I love how someone actually proved freshman were there in '87-'88, but some people don't believe them (and by some people I only mean one). Why would someone lie about pulling out the actual yearbook? And I think the first sentence of this article is wrong when it included ninth-graders. It probably means the first time anyone was allowed off campus. Did you know Paul Ryan was the one that pushed for it when he went to Craig? (interesting fact, I know!)

I think the idea to keep freshmen on campus is a good idea, however I don't like the idea of keeping freshman and sophomores on campus for lunch. Even though the Italian House would be more open to juniors and seniors, most of them drive to different restaurants and don't eat at IHouse etc...after sophomore year. If sophomore's were kept on campus it would mean less money for the restaurants close to campus. And keeping kids on campus for lunch is not necessarily going to solve the tobacco/drug problem.

PollyAnna--I don't think it's just Janesville's WalMart that does this...most WalMarts I have been to also require ID before continuing with purchase.
