On Fewer Janesville school layoffs expected

To all teachers- LEAVE Janesville schools as fast as you can. It is a sinking ship and you will be sucked down with it. Go somewhere where you can be treated fairly and honestly. Take a pay cut, lose benefits, anything, just GO!
Parents- Do the same. Vote with your feet and tell the school board what you think of their "education policies".

Yeah,MAKE THEM PAY!! Sports are the real luxury we don't need in public education. If it were me I would cancel school sponsored sports altogether.

Mr Davisson's mother is one of the best most dedicated teachers I have ever met. She volunteers her time well after school and on weekends for the students. As a teacher and coach she is a wonderful person. I am quite sure her mother was also. I am also in education and am also torn as to whether to encourage my daughter's interest in teaching. Regardless of pay or benefits- why would anyone in their right mind voluntarily go to work everyday to fight with poorly raised children all day just to go home and night and be vilified by the masses who don't have a clue. The unions are not the enemy, republicans and even the moronic tea party are the enemy. For me, my NEIGHBORS choose to be my enemy. I work hard daily to educate their children, only to be told how worthless and greedy I am. I went into education with the goal of touching the future, encouraging greatness and making this world a better place. I don't care what I am paid. I would make just about any salary work for me, BUT I am a college educated person who has NOT invested years and thousands of dollars into having the ability to educate the children of stingy jealous people.

Please senators, stay strong!!!! Prove to WI that the republicans are more worried about themselves than true help to WI. As was previously mentioned, if it was really about the public employees giving up money, then a deal would have been made by now. The Repubs. are being funded by out of state groups that are ONLY interested in tearing apart both the unions are the entire working population of WI (and other states). Once the unions are gone, then the non-union will start to be attacked in the same way. Walker does NOT want to help WI in the way some of you have been brainwashed to think. He is NOT working for us.

First of all, pro-Walker and intelligent don't belong in the same sentence.
Second of all, for those complaining of teachers letting this spill into the classrooms- think of this as a learning opportunity. It is not everyday that historical events happen. If this was something you agreed with and it was NOT brought up, you would be complaining. I find it completely understandable that a human being, yes teachers are human beings also, would not be able to ignore these attacks. The teachers are being told that they are close to slaves. The provide a function, are replacable and not worth paying respect. The vast majority of you making those comments are likely both not educated enough to replace them and if you are would NEVER agree to do what they do under the conditions they do it.

Thank you edted!! For those who are enjoying bashing the unions, enjoy your few moments. Walker will be after you next. The only people Walker will listen to are those that line his pockets. The unions has NUMEROUS times offered financial concessions. The average Joe out there still dumbly thinks this is about paying their fair share. It is NOT about the money. It is about the prison guards having more rights than the people they guard, it is about our elected officials being bought by corporate interest and giving the working people the bill. Our gov. and rep. legislators are being manipulated and bought by outside interests. Doesn't anyone see that! I feel so sorry for those of you that have been so brainwashed by the tea party or your own conservative opinions that you can't see what is going on here. Many of you will claim to be good Christian people and make that a basis for your political leaning. Any child knows the Golden Rule. Weren't you listening on Sundays? My God tells me to respect others and live in his likeness. My God would not be encouraging tanks to plow down the very people that have dedicated their lives to teaching children. Don't you tire of so much hate?

The democrats are doing their job. They are the courageous ones. There are hundreds of thousands of people against this bill. The only way for those people to have an impact was for the senators to do what they did. They showed what it means to be an elected official and still listen to the people and not , like the republicans, just the corporate money that bought them their seat. Rep. Knilans admits that the majority of mail/calls he has received is AGAINST the bill yet he refuses to back down. Is that representing the people??

Your description fits my life exactly and the title even more. It is so wonderful to be one of the lucky ones with a loving family to care for and be loved in return. Valentine's Day is one of my favorite days of the year, in spite of the hectic and expections. A day to remember just how lucky I am and thank those I love.

Student performance is dropping because far too few parents are still parenting. Some students are lucky enough to still have caring supportive parents and families. Too much though, society has been encouraging the notion that it is school's job to both educate and parent. And yes, frusion, some teachers can be to blame for the current situation. Just like in all professions/ jobs, there nothing is completely free of guilt/blame. But, ezoner, you are a perfect example of what I mean by total disrespect and lack of knowledge. Teachers straight out of college haven't found jobs in the lest few years. They have tremdous student loans they can hardly pay back. They started in the programs before some of this all began. Even teachers that have been in the system a while struggle. When will some of you listen! The teachers did NOT demand the raise they got. The teachers have taken responsibility for the benefits they receive. For years they chose benefits over even cost of living raises. There have been years of freezes with ZERO increase, only the demand that we pay more for our benefits. Look past your own self-pity and be reasonable. Almost no other person would voluntarily do what many in the community is expecting of the teachers. From the sounds of it, some nearly expect that teachers should pay for the right to teach and be abused by the community. The teachers are CRYING because they can see what is being done to their students and have no way to undo what the board has done for the past years. They are crying because instead of trying to come up with long-term solutions, the board is choosing to pick fights and manipulate the public. They are crying because they can hope and pray to find a job somewhere else in the near future, but the current students are being robbed of even being able to prepare for the future.

clarity- the conservatives will cause the downfall of this country. If I could leave the country I would. The entire US is becoming an embarrassment to civilized countries. The treatment our citizens receive is often closer to 3rd world than 1st class! Get off your high horse before you stab yourself with that cross of yours. My father-in-law was a small business owner (prior to retiring at well over 70)that was still capable of being a liberal person with compassion for his fellow citizens.
