On Man sent to prison for killing ex-girlfriend in Janesville

Posted on May 14 at 8:26 a.m. ( Suggest removal )

Wow. Some of you are just plain horrible. I don't advocate what he did, but damn. Wishing death upon someone for the crime they committed (and are being punished for!) and then issuing "God's blessings" in the next sentence? Is that how a "true" Christian should act? Should we make it an honor-killing, too, and let Ms. Ostenson's family finish him off??? Simply disgusting.
....
Keep it classy, Janesville. And I'm looking specifically at you, "alwaysright". You're wrong in this instance.

Nope, brwe, I'm confident that I was directing my comment at the right person (YOU). You're trying to use scare-tactics and fear-mongering still. Sure, this woman deserves punishment in this CRIME. Abortion is not a crime. You can't just choose to vilify a woman based on whether or not she's had an abortion if she has no other options.
........................
I'd like to know your views on gay rights and gay couples adopting. I'd certainly expect that if you're so adamantly opposed to abortion that you'd be championing adoption in all forms, especially for the rights of gay couples.
........................
It's these right-wing religious EXTREMIST hacks that do this to people. I'm not saying what this woman did was right (it most certainly was not and she will get punished) but maybe the circumstances would be different if she felt that abortion would be an acceptable alternative. Just sayin'.

brwe, you should check into what you're talking about a little more. What you're referring to is "late-term" abortion. Most abortions performed are NOT of this kind. You should try to stop using fear-mongering scare tactics to prove a so-called point.

fromjanesville2republican: Just be glad you've got a job, buddy. You can get off your horse, now because next time you may not find yourself so lucky. And, to answer your question, it would be reflected in your taxes and would be minute. Get over it. Everyone deserves the right to be healthy.

On Deputy memorial criticized

I'm as close to atheist as they come but I really don't see anything wrong with the words on his memorial. They were his beliefs and it really doesn't sound like this memorial is forcing them on anyone.

To you naysayers: I've lost two jobs through no fault of my own since the beginning of 2008. I lost the last one last November. I was making good money. However, I've been unemployed for almost a year now and my savings are gone! Why shouldn't I be able to get healthcare? I've been without insurance for a whole year. What happens when I get into a car accident or something?
.
I don't understand why all of you that are so far against healthcare for poor people don't like this program? It's helping people gain coverage where they otherwise could not. Of course there are still going to be those that mooch off the system. It's inevitable. But the majority of the people that need to utilize BadgerCare Plus are just like me. Ones that WANT to work but just can't even find a job.
.
Seriously... what do you have against other people being healthy????????

As a business owner, did he not insure himself? Why are they having a benefit when this was clearly his fault? It's not like his business is closed. Park Place is a pretty busy establishment...
.
I'm glad the guy's alive, but there are consequences to all actions, no matter how stupid they are. I agree with janesvillean: A hard way to learn an obvious lesson.
.
I can't say I'll be attending the "benefit". I'd rather donate to those with cancer, AIDS, MS, or any other disease. They didn't cause their disease. Mr. Russell did this to himself. He's paid a high price but he has no one to blame but himself.

JohnDoe: I'm not the one complaining about this Domestic Partner registry. You are. I suggest you stick with your homework. While you're at it, you may want to check out history.
