On General Motors to offer money-back guarantee

Posted on September 11 at 4:28 p.m. ( Suggest removal )

I see the local GM haters are still out there with their usual negativity. I hope you all will enjoy the higher property taxes you will be paying when the local GM plant get reassessed or torn down.

On Harley-Davidson deepens cuts as 2Q profit tumbles

I would have to agree with Gilly, the Harley needs to be modernized. Just how many times can you put a little extra chrome here or there, maybe a fancy paint job on the tank or paint everything all satin black and sell it as a "new" model. You still have an old fashioned, air cooled V-twin, push rod valve-train engine, with a belt or chain drive. Apparently this old engine is a little underpowered since it seems everyone throws away the stock mufflers for a set of straight pipes to give her a little more power. Why doesn't Harley sue the likes of Orange County Choppers or West Coast Choppers and other custom Harley builders for copyright or patent infringement? Why, there ain't a Harley part on them, everything is made by the aftermarket. While your dressed up like a pirate, head on down to the Renaissance Fair in Bristol, they need actors.

God Bless The USA, Support Our Troops and the chant USA,USA,USA, is seen and heard a lot lately on these blogs and around town. Lots of Patriotism. Yet, when it comes to buying cars and trucks from the Detroit three, It's a different story. You then hear, nobody's going to tell me where to spend my money, if I want to buy a car or truck from an Asian, Korean or European company, that's my right. Further more you hear, American car companies make junk. God Bless The USA, Support Our Troops, USA, USA, USA! What's wrong with this picture?

On Legislators hope tax credits sway GM

garyprimer, I don't know if you're new to Janesville and Rock County, just got your computer yesterday or truly have your head buried so far up your A$$ that you're clueless. General Motors has paid tens of millions of dollars in property and operating taxes to Janesville, Rock County and the state of Wisconsin over the last several decades. Then add all the local, state and property taxes paid by the employees of this business over the same amount of time. If this plant goes away, gets torn down and GM no longer has a presence in the area, you will then see what it's like to live without these taxes coming in yearly to this community. I assure you garyprimer, you won't be happy then either!

On Take the GM buyout, or play wait and see?

Spark, I'll have to agree with you on that last statement you posted. GM's management has made some serious blunders over the years. The one I like to bring up is their dealings with Fiat a few years ago. I think Rick Wagoner spent 2 billion to get in and then decided he didn't want to go any farther and had to pay another 2 billion to get out. Brilliant!

Thanks beeferer for a comment that makes sense. The idiots out there that hope for GM and Chrysler to fail and liquidate everything must be nuts. Wouldn't it be better for this country to help these companies succeed, so we can get most, if not all of our money back? Those container ships coming from China, South Korea and Japan ride a little higher in the water on their return trip because all of the profits these offshore companies make off of the United States consumer's, can simply be transferred by wire.

Jimbofish, with a statement like that, you shot yourself and other GM workers across the US in the foot. Think about it.

On Court: Car repair shops must get customer consent

Posted on April 29 at 3:17 p.m. ( Suggest removal )

I remember a state law back in the mid seventies to protect the consumer. That law was, if a car repair was going to cost over $100, the repair shop had to call the customer, let them know the projected cost of the repair and then get permission from the customer whether to continue the work. The customer also had the option to sign the work order that would waive the the need for a phone call, and let the shop continue work. Back then the flat rate was $11 an hour not $75 to $100 it is today.

On GM down, but not out

Posted on March 21 at 11:19 a.m. ( Suggest removal )

By the end of the month, GM will have to present the rest of their plan to reorganize the business to the Federal Government in order to receive any more loan money. In those plans it has been said, they need to close several more plants one of which is a truck plant. Those truck plants on the list are located in Flint,MI, Pontiac,MI, Ft Wayne,IN, and Shreveport,LA. I wouldn't get my hopes up that Janesville will come back to life as these plants facing a possible closure are much newer or closer to the home base.
