On Janesville shelter volunteers report more new faces among homeless guests
Posted on January 12 at 5:39 p.m. ( Suggest removal )
I am sure all of us who are sitting at a computer, using our internet, drinking our coffee or soda, eating food right from our own kitchen can manage to spare even five dollars this month to go towards the shelters in town. Thats one trip to Subway or Starbucks. Thats not forgetting milk when you go to the store and having to waste the gas to go back. Janesville isn't that large city where you aren't sure where the money would go. You can see first hand that its helping those right here in our community trying to get back on their feet and survive! Lets do this, Janesville! its time to come together!
On DNR: Cougar moving around west-central Wis.
Posted on October 31 at 3:06 p.m. ( Suggest removal )
It was believed that cougars no longer were in Wisconsin. This story is important for any owner of large animals or dogs or outdoor cats. Horses, cattle, any kind of farm animal are sitting prey for wolves and cougars. I am glad the Gazette ran this story. Its important to some of us. If you dont care, dont read it. Stop being so negative all the time. Janesville doesn't need attitudes like that.
On Waves of candy, politics pepper crowd at Labor Day parade in Janesville
Posted on September 6 at 7:08 p.m. ( Suggest removal )
I've volunteered at the parade for years. Gaps tend to happen when floats and walkers need to stay back from the shriners or other entries that require a lot of room. Sometimes things happen as well, including horses getting antsy or a car stalling. You can't control everything, the parade is for your enjoyment. It is a LABOR DAY parade, expect some politics.

Cozy Inn by far is the best place in town!!! I love Cozumel too. Surprise nobody has said anything about The Dog House...I know its not fancy or sit down, but they do have some gooooood dogs and their wraps are delicious. The best place to be on a friday is in Afton at Skips!!!
On Which Super Bowl commercial was best?

The flower one was hilarious and I think I might send flowers to all my friends with that saying on the card! Favorites were the doritos and pepsi ones. I did like the snicker one where roseanne says my back hurts now my front hurts...the commercials were fun and funny. Slap stick is in and the humor of TODAYS generation..

my prayers are with the students and teacher right now. This is awful and I cannot imagine what they are going through. Hopefully it ends peacefully and nobody including the student holding them hostage is hurt.
On Rescue organization needs help after 24 horses killed in fire

Unfortunately they are not going to do an investigation into this and it is truly sad as he MORE than likely just got away with arson.
Little known facts regarding this rescue:
1. Does not have not for profit status or paperwork. When a large sum of money was offered to the rescue, they stated they were having problems with their not for profit status, but would accept the money. (of course)
2. The IRS is after them for back taxes and money not claimed by the profit.
3. This man is on disability however does chiropractic work and massage on horses. I am certified in equine massage and let me tell you, it is not as easy as it looks. Your muscles get a work out doing it.
4. Back to this chiropractic thing...NOT CERTIFIED! DO NOT let this man touch your horse. He also does accupuncture, however I do not think that he is certified for that either.
5. He adopted out a horse with conditions. The conditions were met, however came to the farm when nobody was there and took the horse back.
I am going to throw this out there to cover my butt, but its all allegedly! I personally know of all these stories and have witnessed a few...I am just going to say this-if you aren't sure about something, don't do it.
If you are looking to help horses, there are a few other rescues or programs out there. Equine Spirit Horse in Janesville is an equine rescue. They do great work. S.M.I.L.E.S In delavan/Lake Geneva area also does amazing work. They give children and adults with disabilities the opportunity to experience what it is like to bond with a horse.

The last year GM employees delivered food, the groceries were delivered to an elderly woman who literally had nothing in her cupboards. Upon receiving the food, she tried to give it back saying that the GM workers would need it and she could get by... its a sad situation out there. The volunteer reassured her that they would all be alright and he was happy to deliver the items. I will be driving down to Franklin street Monday to make my donation. This is one of the best things the community does, we have to keep it going.
On UPDATE: Shooting at town hall appears to be a suicide

You cannot blame the government for this mans death. Mental illness, depression, addiction...any number of reasons could contribute to his death, but guess what? People deal with these everyday and unfortunately this man could no longer deal with it. I am waiting for the "can't believe how weak he was" statement that always seems to follow someone who took their own life. Think about this way, do you think you are STRONG enough to put a gun up to your own head and pull the trigger, probably not. Its sad, its selfish and its unfortunate...but don't blame bad economy, money hungry government or anything else like that...

On Janesville City Council to discuss extending insurance
Posted on February 13 at 1:39 p.m. ( Suggest removal )
First off, this should not be about money. This is clearly an equality issue. Gandalf, people who are in domestic partnerships would LOVE to marry, we are not allowed. If the state legalized marriage instead of discriminating against a group of people, then you wouldn't have to worry about the financial implications.
While on the topic, domestic partnership is still a slap in the face, as well as Civil Unions. Either way, calling it anything else but marriage makes the LGBT community feel like second class citizens. Even if these two are trying to take a step in the right direction, its still a step in the direction of discrimination. Someone fought for womens rights, someone fought for Blacks rights...here we are today, fighting another another battle and its always based on discrimination. Equality isn't for those who fit in with what they consider socially acceptable, equality is for all. Get with the times.
