On Walker transfers $100,000 to legal defense fund

I really find all of the union insults being thrown around in these gazette blogs to be quite insulting and childish. I AM NOT UNION MEMBER ether private or public and I have worked since I was 14 years old. I was raised in an iron worker union household as well as having many union members as friends, relatives and neighbors. These people are not thugs, goons or mindless drones as some people are so fond of generalizing them ALL to be. The vast majority of them works 40 or more hours a week go to church, volunteer for civic duties and are in general very honorable citizens I am proud to call my friends!
I am getting really tired of the simple minded political trick of finding one example of a union or public employee doing something wrong and painting the entire group of unions or public employees / teachers in the same color for some news bang factor.
These people are your neighbors, relatives and fellow Wisconsinites, unless you can actually talk about one person and one act you would like to discuss then you are no better than the paid political tools that are paid very well to throw our elections to whomever is willing to lie, cheat and throw as much mud as required to sway an election by convincing the people who only watch news and listen to radio that only agrees with their political persuasions. Otherwise YOU would be required to actually think, research and come to some form of conclusion on their own which is obviously WAY too much work for the majority of our voters today.

I would like to know how the record of Barrett’s performance in Milwaukee can be at issue when Walker was also running the next level up of Government entities in the same area at the same time so how can it be Barrett’s record was so bad and Walkers was so good? Is there not so irony in all of this?

Sorry Joe,
But I would have to agree with many on this board in that you have no representational communications skills!
During the whole Act 10 thing I called and called your office and emailed you a number of times wishing to discuss some of the details of Act 10 so I would know what you knew and understand what you as an insider understood and I got back NOTHING. 2 Weeks after the bill was passed I did get a call back and we did speak but all you did was justify your past actions. You gave me the typical party line about protecting elderly, school children and keeping jobs of state workers. How is that working out for all of them?
And also a little late to represent me or my views AFTER YOUR vote was cast. I did not cast my vote for you in the last election to vote YOUR MIND but to listen to and represent ALL OF US. How can you do that if you do not speak to US???
You will not get votes from me my wife or any of our family members in the future. I really thought you would do a good job representing ALL of us but I guess the party powers that be were just too strong for you to resist and you forgot all about US

FedupTP,
If everyone you accused of being in the unions pocket over the last year actually was there would be nobody left to actually reelect walker except you!
EVERYONE,
Get a grip!
I really wish EVERYONE could take a step back a really examine each and every “fact” they are repeating in regards to Walker and the Opposition and try to determine for yourself what is actually true statements and what are half-truths or just outright lies. BOTH sides are GUILTY of disseminating all of the above to try and sway someone’s opinion of the opposition, BUT it’s really OUR fault that it is happening because we buy it and repeat it as fact. If you would really like to see a better Government let’s start with “BY THE PEOPLE” and the peoples part would be to turn off the radio and tv shows that are so comforting to listen to because they tell you all the BAD stuff about your parties opposition and actually use that computer in front of you to find out the real facts about the claims candidates are making and if we do that it may give us a much clearer picture of who we are backing for election to run the state and the nation. I realize many are too far gone to actually be able to do this as they have taken the way of the Taliban, IRA, Sinn Fein, PKK and other groups who would rather just say “I hate you and you do not deserve to walk on my earth” rather than sit down and do the work to find a way to make it work for everyone!
If only thirty percent of the stated eligible voters are actually voting in ANY election they NOBODY holds the MAJORITY but at best you agree with about 15 OR 16% of the actual voters in this great state how can you feel such righteous indignation towards the other 16 or 16%?
Stop being a tool of the advertising industry and THINK FOR YOUR SELF. PLEASE!!!!!

I totally disagree about the high school shop classes not being able to provide the skills needed in today’s workplace. We are after all talking about 9th through 12th grade shop classes. These classes are meant to spark interest and teach the very basics of mechanical, electrical and machine operations. Yes we all learned fractions and decimals in math class but MANY people did not really GET IT until they were challenged in shop classes to use those lessons to actually solve real world problems.
I have worked in highly technical engineering, research and development jobs most of my life and I can tell you I have worked with many products of our institutions of higher learning and I really wish they could have returned to a shop class to learn the basics. If you look at our situation today there is a direct correlation between the need employers say they have for skilled workers and the loss of the basics in high school technical education. Collage theoretical learning is wonderful if all you ever want to do is sit around and discuss problems and solutions but hands on technical people are what we need to claw our way back to the respected position we once held in the world. If you only see cuts to education as some tool to get back at the teachers and administrators who you feel have been unjustly rewarded for their work then you are indeed very short sighted and we are doomed to repeat the same mistakes and continue our decline.

On Janesville City Council delays 2012 sidewalk plan

Posted on May 2 at 2:59 p.m. ( Suggest removal )

Ok so now we are right back where we started years ago with an undecided effort hanging in the wind and no resolution in site. I already have a sidewalk so this issue is mute for me and I don’t care if you get one or not, I will continue to shovel, repair, edge and replace mine because I think for me it’s the right thing to do.
I do have one question for all of the folks who voted for the new council members solely based on this singe issue campaign promise to keep you from having to spend your money and time on sidewalks. How do you think they are going to do on the other couple of hundred decisions they are going to have to make in the next two years of their term?
Do they have any good ideas on how to move Janesville forward in its bid to rise from the ashes of being a single industry dominated town for generations?
Do they have any really good ideas on how to operate the City in this era of budget slashing and cutbacks? Other than the last new members who promised to SLASH the fat and spent hundreds of man hours of city employee time going line by line over the budgets only to realize the only savings They were able to achieve was in the OFFICE SUPPLIES?
Do any of them have any good ideas on how to pay for REQUIRED street repairs without raising tax’s Short of BORROWING the money?
Do any of them have any good ideas on how we are going to keep Janesville from shifting into the Michigan mode of operations where the towns basically go bankrupt and Firefighters do not respond to fire calls and police only respond to life and death situations and nothing else? This is going on RIGHT NOW in over a dozen once very prosperous cities that were at one time thriving middle class automotive based industrial communities. The state government there has basically took over the cities fired the elected officials and each one has been through a succession of “Emergency Managers” with each slashing costs and still failing to do anything to revive the economy or the city until they are fired and replaced by another Emergency Manager.
Are we not headed that direction when all we know how to do is say NO to everything and retreat back into our 4000 Sq. Ft Mc-Mansions and whine about how we can’t afford our lifestyle because the Taxes are killing us? And after all it’s ALL ABOUT ME!!!!

On Children behaving badly: Has it gotten worse?

Posted on April 30 at 5:09 p.m. ( Suggest removal )

I would have to say that the comments that we read here and how we interact with each other on a day to day basis is in a large part the reason many of these children have the issues they have. Many adults have given up the process of teaching children what is required to be a meaningful member of society. Because teaching requires YOU practicing what you preach and from the interchange I see here daily I would hate to hear your conversations with friends or family members that your children overhear. Think of how discuss sports, sports figures, political figures, teachers, and union workers, conservatives and liberals. What ever happened to civil discourse where we can disagree without attacking each other’s heritage, membership in organizations, how we choose to make a living or worst of all attacking someone simply because they have no job.
Parents of young children today are in many cases just too immature to handle their own affairs let alone the raising of a child trying to exercise his or her independence. I have raised two kids that are successful professional self-sustaining members of society. One is a diehard Republican and the other is a true independent and when you sit and listen to the dialog between them and their spouses it is disgusting to hear the kind of drivel being touted about the table during “family” dinners every month.
My 9 year old granddaughter who wants to be a Veterinarian when she grown up actually said she thought “someone should just shoot the (racial expletive) president so we could get this country back on track!” OH MY GOD!!!
I about had a heart attack and the reaction from her mother was “ God help us then Biden would be in charge and if you think this is bad I would hate to see what that old geezer would do!”
At that point much to everyone’s chagrin I stopped everyone from eating dinner and forced the grand daughter to apologize for what she had said. My son and his wife were beside themselves and my daughter-in-law stated “everyone is entitled to their political opinions” At which point I was forced to stand and leave the room for fear of what was about to happen next. The daughter and I have not spoken since that day and she says it’s my fault.
This is the same parents who have a boy in 3rd grade who has been out of control since he was 3 and the parents will tell you they are embarrassed to take him anywhere because of how he acts. But when he acts up they warn and warn and warn and then they will make him take a timeout for about 3 minutes while he is screaming and yelling and kicking the door to the timeout room. But when the school calls about problems they are having with him then I hear “If those lazy teachers would only do their jobs” we would not have this problem. This is a family who goes to church every Sunday and has the kids in Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts and volunteer for many community functions.
I am so confused!!!!!!
