On Chinese decision awaits school board

Posted on March 24 at 7:35 p.m. ( Suggest removal )

My son is taking Chinese and having a lot of fun, they have a great teacher. Why would anyone be upset about children learning any subject? Negativity breeds negativity.
Learning foreign languages young is good for a child's brain development, they use a part of the brain not normally reached and will help later in life. Also it is VOLUNTARY.
Again, this class is not political or religious, they are just learning....lighten up! We have a wonderful school system here in Janesville.

On Jurors became ‘family’ during triple homicide trial

Posted on February 4 at 8:27 p.m. ( Suggest removal )

Thank you for the inside look, and thank you for your service to our community! You all deserve a pat on the back and perhaps there is a way to get some more "perks" for Jurors:)
Seriously, thank you all for leaving your families and convicting this man based on the evidence!

On Will you provide help to Haiti? Choose one answer that best matches your situation.

Posted on January 17 at 12:50 p.m. ( Suggest removal )

I continue to be astounded by the ingnorance of some...what would you have Haiti do to help us during Katrina??? I do not think they have CNN and HLN etc. or know what is happening here. What could they possibly do?
As far as them "helping themselves" where do you propose they move to? How do you propose they move away from their homeland...do we condemn folks for staying in the tornado belt, or Florida or New Orleans?
A natural disaster is a disaster I am under-employed, we donated. We also donated to the Tsunami and to Katrina.
This kick them while there down attitude is sickening. People in torment deserve to be respected and not condemned for acts of nature. The Red Cross is reputable and accountable. I did not give to get a pat on the back, I and my family give because it is the right thing to do. My heart feels at ease when i do the right thing, which is why I am not filled with bitterness. I am an american, i am a veteran i am a citizen and i sleep very well at night.
The saddest part is 67% of my neighbors do not care. Hopefully more educated and compassionate people will speak up.

On Are dads more involved in raising their children than in past generations?

Posted on June 23 at 8:26 a.m. ( Suggest removal )

I think at time passes men are more involved. If you look at the beaver cleaver days dads didnt do diapers, feedings, or daily care because they were working and our society had women at home being "housewives", they did it all and wore heels to boot:) As women have entered the workforce men were forced to be more involved and have taken quite nicely to the task. I grew up without a dad so my mom was both.
My husband was the primary caretaker of our son because i was taking 18 credits in college and working full time. I think as generations grow and change we do what we have to make it work.
Dads are no longer just the come home from work fathers, but full time hands on dad's. Of course every generation has their deadbeats, but some are stronger for that:)
