On Is our state budget balanced, or not?

Posted on February 1 at 7:37 p.m. ( Suggest removal )

I understand what you're saying and I'm still looking forward to voting for Scott Walker again. The progress he has made fixing what Doyle left for him is phenomenal. Obama could learn a few things here from Walker on how to get it done.

I can't wait to move out of this union controlled sinking ship of fools.

On 'Monsters' event keeps Janesville nonprofit in motion

Posted on September 20 at 2:27 a.m. ( Suggest removal )

Is this a newspaper article? It reads like a 4th Grade report. One has to read several tiring paragraphs before learning what the heck the Monster thing in the headline is talking about. Next time the Gazette wants to fill space with ink that will lose people's attention they should just post an old speech rather than an article that is a dis-service to the event they are writing about.

On Should state boost minimum wage?

Posted on September 20 at 2:20 a.m. ( Suggest removal )

NOOOOOO!!! Raising the minimum wage results in MORE UNEMPLOYMENT! It also results in more minorities out of work which contributes to gang violence. Minimum wage jobs are supposed to be entry level - something you do to establish job history as you work towards something else. Whenever the minimum wage is raised, prices go up and so does unemployment. You cannot raise a minimum wage person from poverty by raising minimum wage. Especially when considering that most minimum wage jobs are part time. Say you raise minimum wage by $1.00 a week. Most minimum wage earners will get about $20.00 more a week. You are telling me that will take them from poverty? In reality companies like Taco Bell or Mobil will reduce their available labor hours for the salaried managers who will be forced to work more themselves to make up for the lost worker. This is not rocket science. It is economics. Very basic macro economics. Rep. Mason needs to go take a course at his local technical school.

On Janesville resident hot as budget cuts force shorter pool hours

Close the Riverside wading pool. Rockport and Palmer is enough pool for this town. I am a swimmer and love swimming laps and just swimming for fun at Rockport, but we are in a tough economic time. Cuts must be made. I think we also should cut 2 or 3 police officers and sell the cars too.

On Feingold sets deadline for Senate decision

Posted on June 2 at 8:20 p.m. ( Suggest removal )

Republicans are always touting small government. It's not an oxymoron. Unfortunately you might think that because most Republicans seem to think that there is no such thing as too much military and they have adopted a lot of social issues that tend to impede freedom. If the Republican politicians would stand by their ideals rather than pandering to various interests - all Republicans would be for small government. More freedom! More fun! Democrats (and especially Feingold)are for more regulation, more taxes, more laws, more transfer payments and when it comes down to it - they are for bigger military too! (see Obama)

Not a fan of Feingold but there are worse potential candidates for the Democrats than he. I sincerely hope that we get a conservative with libertarian leanings rather than Feingold or a Republicrat. A real small government Republican is what we need. Does Ron Johnson have a brother?

On WCLO weighing options for Conry replacement

That's too bad. He was a great replacement for Stan Milam. I couldn't stand Milam with his whimsical, sarcastic approach to spreading socialism over the airwaves. I know we live in the People's Republic but Conry was a nice contrast back to common sense (Paine style).

On Dress (and Dine) to Impress

Posted on May 22 at 12:31 p.m. ( Suggest removal )

You know whether or not a restaurant uses table linen is a good indicator of what the overall dining experience will be. Janesville has several places you can go dressed in shorts and a sweaty T-shirt. Places like that you can be sure to wipe the grease off your beard with a paper napkin. For dinner, we need to have restaurants that one would feel uncomfortable walking into dressed in our best septic cleaning attire. Put linen on a table and voila! The guy who just finished shoveling the muck from horse stalls will feel uncomfortable walking in without cleaning up first. That discomfort gives others who want to take their wives out for date night a place to go. Everybody knows: You wipe your butt with paper a nice meal should come with a more appealing smudge remover. When I want to take my wife out for an occasion or to make up for a poorly placed string of words; we go to Madison because there are no good options in Janesville.
