On Former priest accused of sexual assault tells his side of story

I have to say, I am utterly surprised at the amount of argument here. Do any of you sincerely believe that you are going to convert anyone to your point of view through a newspaper messageboard?!? Seriously? People seldom change their opinions when faced with absolute truth standing right in front of them. Do you really think that repeating 'institutionalized child rape' over and over will make someone decide they agree with you? Only those unable to form their own thoughts first are going to end up agreeing with you, and what kind of victory is that? Empty, that's what kind.

Let's be honest, the 'victim' himself could walk up to gazfan and withdraw all of his accusations, take and pass a polygraph and stand on his head and gazfan would still not believe him!

I also attended SJV for K-8 grade. Not only do I think Fr Vosen is a good man and that it is incredibly sad that he has been uncermoniously removed from his vocation based on this clearly unproven accusation. I also remember reading the original stories when it was reported and thinking 'the building isn't laid out like that. That type of discipline was NEVER offered/done.' The man's story simply didn't line up with the absolute facts of how the buildings are built, much less the realities of how the school was run.

I am also amused by gazfan's use of lawerly knowledge to the extent that it serves him. Yes criminal court is much different than civil court; however, a verdict in favor of the 'victim' does not prove guilt on the part of Fr Vosen. You have the most amazing and amusing convoluted logic.

Don't worry about responding to me. I have a thoroughly full life that does not include trolling gazextra's stories for places to argue with strangers and get undue attention.

Can I point out that just because the Police didn't receive any complaints does NOT mean nothing happened??

Just because Mercy won't admit that such a thing was report, also does NOT mean nothing happened. With privacy laws being what they are, Mercy may not even be able to admit anything, much less WANT to!

Also, I thought 'everyone' knew that rape is one of the single most UNreported crimes in this country. Why is it so far fetched to believe that nothing got reported in this case?

I'm not saying something necessarily DID happen. But whatever happened to using your own brain and critical thinking skills to make up your own mind about information you're given?

Keep your comments to yourself? Isn't that the point to these forums? And why is it wrong of him to believe that there may be a 'moneymaker' issue behind this since it did take so long for him to file?! Keep YOUR comments to yourself.

It would appear you know more about the individuals situation than you're willing to share and that's fine, but that doesn't mean you get to be rude to someone else who expresses their opinion.

On Watchdog group questions Wis. sheriff’s prayer breakfast

When are people going to stop going on and on about "separation of church and state???"

First and foremost no such thing exists in the Constitution or anywhere else in this country's founding documents.

Second what does exist is the right for each and every person to choose their own religion and the prohibition of the government from DECLARING a National religion. If Justice Gableman would like to exercise his right to choose his religion by attending a prayer breakfast, then there exists ZERO basis for argument against that in the Constitution he has sworn to uphold. In fact that very Constitution was written to GIVE HIM that exact right.

Third, why is always the Christian-based organizations and events that are targeted as violating 'separation of church and state?' Why isn't anyone upset when a Justice attends a synagogue or a Sheriff goes to a Buddhist retreat?? I get so tired of the farce of 'separation of church and state.' Find something with a legal basis to argue about, please!
