On Inspections could flag work done without permits: Steeber

Okay, just so that I understand this correctly. I buy a home that has had several prior owners. They make imporvements over the years, some had permits and others didn't. Now, the city wants to come in, tear things up, inspect the work from the past couple of decades and owners and then penalize me for it? How is that right?

On Vehicle lines to distribute as dealer plans closure

Zoom - you are correct in stating that there are or can be dealer incentives on various automobiles. Yes, you can purchase a vehicle at invoice pricing and still leave the dealer the "holdback". However, there is a number of expenses that are involved in the "front end" of a dealership. Insurance and interest on the new vehicle inventory for example. I understand that you have a lack of concern pertaining to anyone's livelyhood other than your own, however, I don't believe that very many businesses are placed under the microscope in the same manner as the automotive industry. When is the last time anyone has stated that they would not pay anymore that cost on the purchase of a new home? What may be the mark up in that circumstance? How about appliances? Food? I spend about the same amount on food each month as I do on my vehicles? Would I expect to negotiate on the prices at the register? Even a good negoiator knows when he is being fair and when he is attempting to bully the situation. I believe in treating others in the same manner I wish to be treated. If I am in need of services, and I wish to have someone qualified, I will pay the price. And traveling any distance will not get you a better deal with anyone. Be upfront, state what you believe to be fair and be educated on what you are asking for. Most will be happy to comply to EARN your business.

Sure a service department anywhere will do whatever is needed for a price, but I have a sales person that will pick up my vehicle for maintenence and return it when they are done. They have been there for me and other members of my family, when I/we needed assistance (i.e., changing my tire). So many local businesses and local people rely on their community for survival, why should they be any different?

I am certain that the area dealers who took on the additional product lines, also agreed to assist in placing the Everhart-O'Leary employees. I have purchased vehicles in both the Madison and Janesville markets and I believe I am quite educated/informed in my purchases. I have found that Madison was interested in my purchase at the time of doing business, Janesville was interested in earning my current and future business. Besides, if I can do business locally, why would I travel to Madison. I certainly am not going to travel that far for my vehicle maintenence.

On Where did you grow up or spend the most time before you became a Janesville resident? (Pick Janesville if you’ve always lived in Janesville.)

Walworth Co.,... Los Angeles... Naples... Janesville... This area has been the best I have seen/lived in. There is a sense of pride in community and caring for our friends and neighbors. Many areas are not so fortunate. Taxes (property and income) are high, but the city is well cared for (for the most part) and we have excellent parks.

FYI Hannah... The state is considering a "graduated" registration and eliminating the tax credit on your trade in value. (i.e., you will be paying the full amount of sales tax on the purchase price of your new or used vehicle and your registration will be based on the value of your vehicle each year.)

On Mayo loses appeal for fourth time

A life sentence should be a LIFE sentence. I was young when they killed Randy. I still remember going to the funeral. No parent should have to go through what his family went through. And a fourth appeal!?! Enough is enough! There needs to be truth in sentencing!

On Teen pleads innocent in drunken-driving death

This is insane! Public records today show 3 arrests made from driving while intoxicated. None of which were a first offense. Why are we so lax on prosecuting? And when we do, it is like a slap on the wrist. Drunk driving becomes an issue once someone dies. By that time it is far too late. The crime does not nearly meet the punishment.

The school was in error when they failed to inform parents of the situation at the begining of the school day. I have ALWAYS been a proud parent of 2 Kennedy students as well as a volunteer to the school when I am able. I believe the staff to be exceptional and very caring. I am very disappointed that they did not allow ME to make the decission on whether I was ok as a parent to have my son attend class today in light of the situation. We are very fortunate today that our children are at home and safe in their beds. I would just like to know IF there is a concern regarding his safety BEFORE the Gazette does.

I could not have said it better myself. I found that information sent home today was a little late. I would have felt much better having the information when I dropped my son off rather then when I picked him up. He also would have not been in attendance today.
