I have to disagree with some of the comments about Franklin. My son has been there for the last 2 years and has excelled both academically and socially. He has consistently scored in the 98th percentile on all tests. I attribute that both to the teachers and to us as parents. There are good and bad at all schools.

jodymac I think people know how you feel.Enough about outsourcing the custodial and food service to Kandu. I challenge you to come to a school and shadow one of the custodians. The first shift starts at 5am! As for food service, come do the same. See how hard they work to get upwards of 430 students through the lunch line in less than 1 1/2 hours, while the custodians set up and clean in between the shifts. See the jobs these people do on a daily basis, and see if you change your tune. There is a great deal more involved than pushing a broom and serving meals!!!

I agree with the comment about volunteers being welcome in the schools. I think if more people volunteered, they would see what the school staff does on a daily basis. Not sure of the ages of the people commenting on here, but things have changed a great deal since I went through the school system. Also jodymac, it is Kandu not Kandi. I believe the district does work with Kandu throught the central office.
On Adams Elementary School principal to retire

Good luck Mrs Grant. You will be definitely missed. I am actually tearing up right now. You have not only been a principal to these children, but a friend to all of them. It still amazes me that you know the name of every child in our building. I have read many times that Adams is the "happy" school and, from my involvement as a parent, I know it is true. Thank you so much for everything that you have done for the children and families of Adams School.

My son is a member of Troop 595. Mr Katz will be greatly missed by the boys and all involved in the troop. My son has great memories of summer camp, fishing etc. thanks to Rodney. The Scouts have lost a true friend. Thank you Rodney for all you have done for the Scouts.

I agree with many of the post concerning the students at Wilson school. Mr Dommershausen, I have called the school board members and have emailed the school board members regarding this very issue. NONE have had the courtesy to get back to me or any of the other parents who have contacted you. Any other suggestions for those of us who work while you listening sessions are going on????

Two of these schools have some of the highest enrollments in the district. Why not start with the ones with the smallest enrollments??????

The custodial and maintenance workers are 365 day a year employees. They work all year long. They get called in at all hours of the day and night. They do not get "summers off" as I have seen some people post on here.

On Favorite Halloween Costumes

I am dating my self here, but my mom made me a Joy Buggaloo costume out of pink satin one year. It was the best. More recently, I went as a "Smartie Pants." Easiest costume ever...hot glue, old jeans and a big bag of Smartie candies.
