On Fourth of July celebration lacks community support

Does anyone remember the "anything that floats raft race" that started at the 4-mile bridge? Wouldnt that be fun if that got started up again, it was always the first thing that took place to kick-off the day. They need more organizations to co-ordinate each activity. get the girl scouts/boy scouts, Boys/girls club, Janesville Youth baseball or the American Legion(tournaments) Marinas (for river activities), etc to each plan an event and schedule them throughout the day or weekend, then its not the responsibility of just one organization to pull the whole show off. I think we could do away with the trashy carnival, the 4-H Fair is coming in a few weeks! We need more variety in activities to draw a different crowd, not just the beer-tent and music.

On Behavior ruins fun for kids

It is absolutely heartbreaking to hear a kid say they are soo embarassed when a parent gets out of line. I have experienced it at baseball, after a great game instead of congratulating the kids, or coaches, parents are waiting outside the dugout to raise heck because their little pumpkin didnt play the right position, or didnt get to play enough all together. Parents, you are not doing your kids any favors by trying to bully the coaches into doing what YOU want them to. Let your kids EARN the position they are suited for, if they arent cutting it,and they get benched, or moved to another position, let them experience some disapointment, ITS GOOD FOR THEM!!! god forbid they learn some life lessons along the way.

On Shuffle on down: Old game makes comeback in Riverside Park

Thank You to Sandy Hendricks and all of the Friends of Riverside Park. I am so happy to see this park coming back to life again, it is the most beautiful park we have in town, with so much to offer. It goes to show that with organization, we dont have to rely on the city alone to provide. This group has brought new life to this park themselves and they should be very proud! I have wonderful memories of being pushed on the swings, watching the river and getting a drink from the artesian well. I am glad its coming back so I can make those memories with my own kids, or grandkids.
