On Janesville man convicted of eighth DUI

Cardtrader- I agree with you, however most confirmed alcoholics drink alone for the most part.. Once the alcohol is in their system their thought process changes. I don`t believe that there is a person alive who sets out to drink and then drive..They tell themselves "I`ll just have a couple, then go home". I believe as a former bartender, that bartenders should be able to be held liable for over-serving patrons. I have been out plenty of times and seen the new kid on the block (just turning 21) trying to get 21 shots.. How insane- but yank the license of the idiot bartender serving them. You can easily see when a person is impaired.. Its a bigger picture/problem here.. But if bartenders were held liable, it would greatly reduce some of this. I had patrons come in blitzed, served them plain soda for hours that they thought was the mixed drink they ordered. Charged them NOTHING, they think they are special, I was trying to sober them up. I have also stolen their keys called them a cab, and the next day they return to only thank me and try to pay up for the cab.. Its a much bigger picture here- much.

GX- user, I read that article and was completely blown away. I have bartended on and off here in Wisconsin for about 15 years on the side of my regular job. NEVER did I ever serve a minor (to my knowledge). Infact it is the bartenders "right" and bar establishments right "to refuse service to anyone". Its called common sense. It is also legal for a man or woman married to a minor to bring them in and serve drinks to them.(Again I refused-my right to refusal). That bar owner is beyond ignorant to even begin to think that this is ok. All he is doing is enabling future generations into becoming what obviously their parents already may be -alcoholics.. I also would refuse to serve a pregnant woman, yep it made people mad, but in the long run I slept at night.
But honestly folks, having seen first-hand what alcoholism really is- its generally NOT your bum off the streets. It is your average woman/man, (whether they are blue collar/suit), hard working, functional people. Jail nor prison is the answer here. It is ridiculous to put alcoholics behind bars (unless of course they have caused bodily injury).People like this need help. We need programs that will not only allow help, but also that enforce them to stay sober such as jail. Maybe ankle monitors etc.. What good does it do to send them off to jail, to lose their jobs families etc..Think about a family member of yours who has this problem, then being put in jail/prison with hardcore rapists, murderers etc... Its not making sense what is happening.
Do I believe that this man should be punished? You bet, just not in this fashion. If there were tuff help programs that needed to be followed just as if you were in jail, then maybe we wouldnt see multiple offenses.

On Tough times hit hard at Gazette

Mr. Angus- you can`t possibly think you are going to win an argument here with some of these completely ignorant people- do you? Especially the commenets about the story released on the young couple.. My hat is off to you and the Gazette. AWARENESS PEOPLE!! hello- WAKE UP. Obviously the parents themselves wanted this story told, to hopefully HELP someone RECOGNIZE that there may be real issues that could lead to something horrible.
The Gazette can`t win with some of the idiots out here. This man is trying to tell a story about hard times, layoffs etc.. Who cares how we all got here- we ARE HERE.. So instead of some people saying "hey sorry to hear that Scott, layoffs SUCK" you hear and see the IMMEDIATE finger pointing... Complete joke.

Well Mr. Angus, I am sorry to hear that you had to layoff a couple friends. THAT SUCKS. We are all hitting hard times here, and hopefully we can all pull through. As a single working mom, I can honestly say I hear what you are saying... I also would like to commend you on quite a few stories, especially the one involving this young couple. Such a tradgedy, and hopefully with more awareness we will become more wise.

On Bus drops kindergartner miles from home

WOW- most of you are CLODS for answering this the way you have!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME? This WAS and IS the school bus company`s fault.. This is not a teenager we are talking about- but a FIVE YR.OLD CHILD.. Heck yah- she was probably traumatized ! When the new school yr. starts out- it should be ABSOLUTELY THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE SCHOOL BUS DRIVER to say -" Hey so and so, is this your stop"? C`mon folks---- think about it!! Such a simple thing for the driver to do!
Would you pick up FIVE yr. olds and dump them off somewhere without VERIFYING...??... Of course its not grounds to take to court- but if it were my FIVE yr. old child, she was dumped off at a stop and something HORRIFIC happened --- you bet your beehind I`d make sure it NEVER, EVER happened again. C`mon, people need to QUIT passing the buck, and take responsibilty, remedy it so it never happens again..
But you people claiming a FIVE yr. old should have been able to handle it, or avoid it are complete idiots.

Gosh Northern-- here you are complaining about EvansvilleH- and how she attacks etc... then you so RUDELY turn around and point at Unknown for not spelling correctly..?.. Geez, I read it, I understood them.. Not everyone can spell correctly, does that really matter? No, this is a forum basically - hear the words, don`t focus on the spelling. Unknown had some good points as well.

Ok all you non- believers that there was NOT a cover up- or "head turned here".... What on earth do you think would have happened if this was YOUR vehicle parked at YOUR house, with extensive damage and air bags deployed?? They would have beat your down! WAKE UP people!!! What a joke.. I do live in Milton, and believe me some- I say some of these officers do have bad reps, and repeatedly HARASS the same persons.. What a joke!!

**pat1275** Ummm-- most "perps" of this sort do not advertise who they really are! Be careful, you may be in for a shock when this man is found GUILTY.. He already basically has by DNA, and although you have every right to your opinion and comments- it is indeed an insult to the victims to label him this "great guy"..

OK Madisonbell-- let`s "think out of the box", we closed minded people here in Rock County really want to know how you do that in a community where this man ran rapid commiting his crimes for 10 years!.. Are you a single mother with children, are you a parent of a thirteen yr. old? Do you have a rapist running around in the community? Let me tell you that this DNA has given ALL the answers.. Gosh, I just don`t get some of you people and the "innocent til proven guilty".. Hmmmmm, did his DNA appear by accident in SIX CRIMES??? What the heck do some of you people want VIDEO? PICTURES? I just know when I go to bed tonight, I feel a bit safer for my child and myself knowing that this man is OFF THE STREETS. To me, now that the DNA has "got him" we should not even have to waste time with countless- endless hours of court. JUST SENTENCE HIM, lock him up, toss the key.
