On Gun owners aiming to shoot at government

Posted on December 4 at 9:04 a.m. ( Suggest removal )

"Fantasy gun battles aren’t the way we save democracy in the real world."

Tell that to the Framers of the Constitution. High-minded ideals aside, the authority of the government comes from both the will of the people at large and the application of force to protect them and itself.

However, the world isn't perfect and no amount of idealism would make it so. It's funny that you mention the current administration but neglect others. FDR did just as much to stifle constitutional protections during WWII.

On Officials promise improved response to snowstorm emergencies

I hate to sound negative, but I hope we have another bad winter. I figure that with enough of the bad winters in a row, the lessons learned might just sink in.

The biggest thing of course is that there were a lot of people on the road then that shouldn't have been. While 4-WD and traction control is all the rage, people need to learn it doesn't solve every issue.

However, if all that doesn't pan out, I suggest we booby-trap the building in case they come back.

On Paperless classroom saves money, resources

I'm not against the idea, but don't lie. A paperless classroom saves paper, that's it. It doesn't 'save the environment', think of the lead in the computer screens! Ever read about all the toxic IT dumping? Again, I'm not saying it's a bad idea - because it also teaches computer skills, but people need to look at the program with their eyes open. What happens if there is another crippling computer virus like the one that hit the Janesville schools earlier this year (and is still affecting them). Would the kids be sent home or are there emergency backup plans for teaching them?

On Plastic bag ban for Janesville?

Posted on November 6 at 5:26 a.m. ( Suggest removal )

I can imagine the halls of politics ringing with the cries of the poor, the wails of the homeless, the tears of those without jobs, and the shouts of those without health care. I can see the roads crack and heave, the street lights fade to gray, the towers crumble and sway, and below us, the sewers rot to dust. I can see the lone Chairman of the Sustainable Janesville Committee looking out upon the city that once seemed so fair, clenching his fist and knowing that his first action must be the right one.

Two words come out. Cold and Clear amid the gathering storm.

Plastic Bags.

On Parents say they were left in dark during lockdown

It's unrealistic to assume they had the time or available manpower to call everyone in the area. They should have just called ME. Uh... even though I don't have any children and I don't live in Janesville.

I won't vote, but I feel sorry for him. There is never a good time to suffer a crisis like this, but in the public eye like this is probably among the worst.

Yeah, because Democrats would never do that. </end sarcasm>

On Janesville landlords learn how to prevent hoarding

To a point. I think some "helpful interventionists" take this to an extreme. One person's clutter can be another person's workspace.

I agree garbage would be a problem. I could see where a pet could be a problem. Paper becomes harder to determine, as experts often recommend saving many important papers ten years (or longer).

I think they're either at school or they're shooting someone. I forget which.
