Awesome story...awesome business! We stopped in a few weekends ago and Tawnya and Kitty were so knowledgeable about what type of shoes would benefit our running styles. They also offered great expertise in the area of hydrating and fuel-loading during long run/races. If you are a runner, or are wanting to try it out, this is the place to go! What a gem of a store right in our very own backyards!

Yes, there is going to be a half marathon in June in Fort Atkinson. Here is the link from the Chamber website: http://www.fortchamber.com/page.asp?cont...
Also, the Crazylegs race (though not as long) is a favorite of mine! You can't beat finishing a race coming out of the tunnel and funneling onto the field at Camp Randall!

Thanks for recognizing these individuals! Although I do not frequent Walmart much, Dennis, the employee at Target, definitely deserves to be commended for his energy and commitment to his job there! I bet there isn't a day that he isn't exhausted after coming home from his job, and I really appreciate all of his help when I have a baby in my arms!

While not surprised, I am again saddened at the complete lack of ability to see a world view in this community. Please realize that there is a whole world out there where people speak different languages, and even in our own community we can hear several being spoken. Isn't it important to anyone else that our children learn about people other than themselves, and take an interest in communicating with them? Isn't it our job as parents to make sure they can have as many experiences with obtaining a world view as possible? Maybe some of you commenting on here have never left this community and think that having a world view is senseless. I feel sorry for you in that regard.

It is amazing to me how some people believe that everything can remain how it once was. Charging $5.00 per adult is less than most people spend on an extra value meal at McDonalds, and I really don't think that all of the people complaining about this have given up McDonalds. Rotary Gardens is a beautiful part of our community. Kudos to Rotary for being proactive enough to charge a minimal admittance fee in order to maintain the grounds and provide a beautiful place for us to enjoy for years to come!

Although I agree that WEAC has its own agenda, and that unions really only protect inadequate teachers, I do not believe that merit pay is in the best interest of our educational system. In states that link test scores to teacher pay, one could say that a balanced education is sacrificed in the name of "teaching to the test." Teachers cannot teach each student with a prescribed formula that in the end creates great test scores. That's the reality of teaching. Good teachers don't teach to the test, and never will. Good teachers teach students...and some students will never make yearly adequate progress. Students are not inanimate objects. I find it almost appalling to think that anyone who has children would think that if we pay their teachers more because they do well on a test, that this would mean they are getting a better education.
On 148 Wis. schools fail federal standards

The press release concerning this topic can be found at http://dpi.wi.gov/eis/pdf/dpi2009_60.pdf...
You can look up a specific district, and then the specific school for details at: http://www2.dpi.state.wi.us/sifi/default...
Until the NCLB system is changed to support individual needs of the students that attend schools in the public education system in America, we will continue to have FAILING schools. Anyone who knows anything about learning and growing knows that not all individuals learn at the same time, and on pace with others seated in the classes next to them.

On Skatin' Place fix

If you are in your late 20s and 30s, much time was spent at the Skatin' Place on Fridays-Sundays. My particularly favorite session was Sundays from 1-6, and my favorite game was the limbo. Anyone remember how low some of those great skaters could go? I loved rocking that skating skirt and matching skate covers, too. Thanks, Boughton Family, I loved my Sunday Fundays "Skatin on Maple"!!
