On Case Feed demolished

I remember going into this store one time when I was a kid. It was a very nice place, the service was great and I remember it feeling very homey there. Wonder what's going to take it's place now.

Yes I was just thinking of that 2001 storm too, in August, right before school started again.

On $10/hr - A living wage?

Posted on February 13 at 8 p.m. ( Suggest removal )

Living in Milwaukee County, you begin to realize how little even $10 an hour is. I make less than this, and if it weren't for my boyfriend making a lot more than me, I would never survive on my own over here. I am one of those that wants so desperately to get back into school but cannot afford to do so. I would not qualify for any scholarships or grants, so I'd have to pay out of pocket or with a loan. I think the government needs to take time to invest in the education of it's citizens to try and get the unemployment number down. Obviously this will not solely bring the number down, but it is a start. I'm working a dead end job right now where my boss tries to convince me I mean something there which is completely crap. You do what you gotta do until that light at the end of the tunnel finally shows through.

On Janesville stores focus on customer safety

Going off of what "dkush21" said, I had a guest come purchase a TV from my Target store simply because Wal-mart could not honor the price advertised online because of WI mark up law. Target had it on sale for cheaper than Wal-mart's 'everyday low price' so he came to Target to buy the TV. So this state law also effects the retailers, but I'm sure Target is glad to take a sale away from Wal-mart any day. :)

On Your ZIP code could affect your auto insurance rates.

I drive a 98 Chevy and it's not getting any younger. Why do I want to pay higher premiums every month for something that in the end will not benefit me? My car is worth nothing anymore and if something were to happen to me or my car, because I carry liability only, the insurance I carry doesn't do anything for me. I'd be better off pocketing that money every month and saving it for a 'what if'. Am I right or am I wrong?

On the ZIP code topic. I now live over in Milwaukee county but my insurance is still covered in Rock County. I don't live in Milwaukee but close enough that my rates will sore through the roof once I notify them of the change. I am a very careful driver, but I can't speak for the rest of Milwaukee County. I do not agree charging more based on your ZIP code is fair, however, I do not think it's fair to now pass this cost on to other state residents.

Both of these new laws if passed I feel will screw the little person and make more low income residents not do the right thing.

Congrats to the family! Kind of ironic I think that this story happens within a week of another birth on I-43 here in Milwaukee. Maybe something is in the water? :D

On Schools to compete for $5B from stimulus law

Posted on July 25 at 10:58 a.m. ( Suggest removal )

I did read in the Journal Sentinal this morning that legislators are already trying to work up a way to change this law which prohibits the state from tying test scores to teacher pay. Very interesting article. I do hope that we get some of this money because our schools desperately need it. It would be such a shame to let this pass by.

Help me understand this as I heard it earlier on the evening news. Does this mean WI is out of the running for any portion of the money due to this law that we have in place (which I think is completely ridiculous, jmo) or do we still have a chance at getting this money that is desperately needed due to continuous budget cuts to the school districts?

Yes I'm in contact with him right now and unfortunately he is one of those 50 people.

I just got an email from my father saying his LSS email address is no longer valid. I'm extremely nervous that he is one of those 50 people now. Does anyone know what positions got cut? This is terrible news for Janesville.
