On Lunch crunch
Posted on July 7 at 11:11 a.m. ( Suggest removal )
I'm in my last year of high school, and sadly, i'm a student of DDHS, and the shorter lunches aren't the only promlem that exists and our school. But keeping it on topic, having a twenty min. lunch to me is just to short. We have the right to off campus lunches, which on DDHS's behalf, is a great thing, but when lunches were cut to only 20 mins, we really had no time to go out for lunch anymore, and if we did most of the time was spent in the drive thru waiting for our food, instead of going and sitting down, eating our meals. Its not like the school provides us with something we acctually can enjoy for a meal. Teenagers are picky when it comes to food, it has to taste good to be real to us. The school sends out newsletters to parents, explaining what the school is trying to do to imporve our school days, and our lunches. They have said things about cutting our lunches forever and keeping it down to only 20-30 minutes, and taking away the off campus rights. I believe that if they were to do this, it would only cause more problems in the school among students. You get stuck in crowded hall ways for that many hours and don't get to see the light of day and the small taste of freedom on our lunches anymore, we will tear each other apart.
Another thing our ohh so great school did when they cut our lunches were effecting the students who go home on their lunches to eat and take care of things around the home. I for one know personally how that was effective on students, I was one of the many who would go home, get something to eat instead of spending my money on school lunch and fast food, and take care of my pets as well. With parents who work during the day and me with only 20 min lunches i wans't able to make it home and i got to come home often to a dog mess on my floors.
I know my thoughts on this aren't orgainized and if your an adult, your more and likely won't understand this from the person who is acctually effected point of view, but this is something more then just how much time we have to eat, it is more about the fact that we also need to allow more time for teens to just relax and take the edge of the day, we should be able to enjoy our lunches how we want them.
Students didn't even get to make the decisions in a commite set up for deciding what their going to do about lunches. It was adults, adults who don't even apply to the lunches. they aren't the ones who have to eat it, and deal with the new restrictions. When is there going to be the chance for the STUDENTS of ddhs, to have a voice??
