I would say women stay in their relationship out of fear for their lives....an oxymoron really, and the tendency to believe their abuser when they are told "I won't do it again".
They also might not have a stable environment in which to escape to.
A few may not want to leave their possessions behind, and most need to change the way they think about themselves, which is all about self esteem.

Child support issues are a bit below the reasons I believe....I, and several other woman I know, never received child support, and lived within our means and didn't collect from the Government.

I drove by this accident going east, and the poor individual was lying dead in the median...( a passer by was aiding the victim with a blanket). My heart hurt to see this, and I hope those of you who make snide remarks will refrain and think about it maybe being your family member ....

Back in the 80's my sons both were in the facility, and they are fine men today!

How sad it would be to terminate such a valuable institution!

I was there...a quarter mile back from the accident.
At 2PM it was still very very slow traffic going west bound, on my way home from Madison.
I'll be staying home the rest of the weekend...it's all not worth it!
