~BTW, I don't mean that all snowmobile riders are inconsiderate. But even listening to them ride by over and over is irritating. I live where there is little to no traffic~~so, yes, the sounds of them are quite loud to me. Not to mention it makes all the local dogs go crazy too :P

OnWisconsin~~I can tell you that honestly at midnight~~NO I do not!!! I do not stand outside and rev my engine while yelling over the top of it to my friends. Sorry, but I don't. I tend to respect others like that! I have no problem with them riding during the day, etc. But at night when my children are trying to sleep for school and I for work the next day~~it tends to irritate me.

Sorry~~but thank goodness!! Maybe I can get some sleep at night!! Instead of listening to roaring snowmobile engines and hollering just yards from my bedroom window at all hours of the night. Doesn't help that we live just a few blocks from the local bar that seems to be a stop for everyone :o( I'm sure I'll get slammed for this comment, but I'm so tired of it all I really don't care!!!

On Local businesses push back over credit card company fees

Just a thought~~I would think most businesses would rather take credit cards/debit then let people write checks and take the chance that may bounce. When I worked retail the number of checks that came back were astounding~I'm pretty sure it's even worse now. Letting customers use credit/debit seems to be a better option.

carlitosway--I will only say this until you work these kind of kids, you have no clue and no idea of the damage done to them. You say you had love in your home~these kids have NONE. They have worse than no love. Take this poor girl for an example~~probably horribly abused for 14 years of her life. Do you think that can be undone? Do you think you can just erase that? If you think there is some magic program out there to take care of that, then again, you have no idea. I don't even for a moment think that adults who did this are excused in anyway at all. They are not. My point to you is that those who say there is no cycle or it's not to blame are incorrect. And until we find a way to stop that cycle or a way to heal it~then those who abuse will face consequences despite their background. And we will be there to try and pick up the damaged pieces left to try and make a whole person, send them out into the world and hope that they can make a better life than what they had.

Unfortunately, I am NOT shocked by this. I worked for many years with abused and neglected children. Unfortunately, I will continue to not be shocked by these things because of the horrible, vile, disgusting things I've seen done to children by their 'parents' or 'guardians'. The things done to them by the very people who should be protecting them. The people who should be raising them and teaching THEM how to be loving, caring people. Those who don't want to hear about the cycle are sticking their heads in the sand. The degree of abuse that some children receive will leave them forever scarred and never able to lead healthy 'normal' lives. Those children will grow up and more than likely have children of their own. They will be the kind of parents that were modeled to them as they grew. Simply because they know nothing else. It is a cycle~~a horrible, awful one that will most likely never come to an end. All we can do is intervene and try to undo years of abuse and teach these children how they should have been loved and raised. You are all professing great sympathy for this poor girl (as you should and as do I) but more than likely she will grow up and have a family of her own. Where do you think she's learned her parenting skills?

janesvillean-Thank you. I needed to hear some kind words.
I do apologize because after rereading my comments I find them full of harshness and that really is something that I don't enjoy seeing in myself. The past few days have been very emotional. I feel very helpless here knowing there is little I can do to help friends there. I took that frustration out here and while it felt good, it certainly is not how I like to represent myself.

On Cuts force reduced hours at Evansville Youth Center

rockresident~~I hate to tell you that you are wrong. The youth center budget is completely seperate from the YMCA budget. Money raised for the youth center stays in the youth center. The YMCA budget does not get any moeny from the youth center.
The city has been wanting to cut funding to the center for some time now and this should not have come as a big surprise to the Y, the advisory board or anyone else. It is sad that something more proactive wasn't done to fill the gap this will leave in the budget.
