On Will the General Motors plant in Janesville remain open through the end of 2010?

I agree, this is sad. But from a different perspective. The EEs at GM have a sense of entitlement. They believe that they were "owed" the money and a lifetime job at GM. They are so far out of touch with the rest of the local economy and realistic wages that, for many of them, they'll never 'get it' and will end up being very, very bitter. Many will spend the rest of their life complaining about how they were 'screwed' out of their job. Others will move on - they'll take the job re-training offered by the Company and State and get a more realistic-paying job. So many people wanted to get a job at GM, but as mentioned above, it's not what you know, it's who. If you didn't get an application from an existing EE, you couldn't even apply. Now, those same power-hungry idiots are going to be out looking for jobs with the rest of the population. See how far that gets you! This is a good lesson for our children (a teachable moment). Remind our children to be nice to everyone - you may need a favor one day!!!
On Will the state’s effort to increase safety get you on more festival rides this year?

MikeF - I'll be sitting under the tree with you! I used to love the rides, not anymore. My head and stomach just don't stay together after them anymore...on the other hand, I still want safer rides for my son and the rest of my fam and friends. Rides should be subject to rigorous pre-startup checks and should be inspected by the state on a regular basis.

Thank you for the petition! My husband and I have both signed it.
PASS THE WORD BLOGGERS! SIGN THE PETITION NOTED BELOW!
The machines that require a driver to blow into them before driving - DO NOT WORK! They have their friends do it or they drive a different car. (The machines are not trasferable.)
We, THE MAJORITY, must pressure our representatives to take action. Losing their license and their car will make they pay attention! People still drive without a license - if they have a car. Just one more weapon off the street.

I was hit by a drunk driver in Minnesota about 8 years ago. Sunday afternoon, about 1 p.m. She was driving home, with her two small kids in the back seat. No car seats, no seat belts being used. She had a birthday cake on the front seat. She came over the center line and hit me head on. Her first concern? Her wrecked cake. Not her kids. Not me or my passenger. This accident was her SEVENTH drunk driving ticket!!! These people are selfish. The best part? She had her car back for less than a week - it had been in the shop being repaired from her last drunk driving wreck! Her poor kids - watching their mom being led away in handcuffs while they waited for grandma and grandpa to come and get them from the side of the highway. Nice memory of your mom, huh? These people don't learn - they keep going. Once Jennifer gets out of jail - she'll drive drunk again and blame it on the guilt she feels for her children or Trisha. There's always an excuse and these kinds of people don't take responsibility for their actions. Let's hold them accountable. Start writing letters to your representatives. Demand that they take a leadership role in passing new laws to protect our children, parents, friends, etc.! Let's stand up and do something. Hopefully we can have something good come of this!!!!

First and foremost, my heart goes out to both families. Both have suffered a great loss. We often put ourselves in the shoes of other adults. How about those children? Can you imagine going to school and being ridiculed about what your mother did? I agree with so many of the other people - WI needs to get tougher on drunk drivers. They are making a conscious decision, a greedy, selfish decision to drive drunk (or under the influence) that, in a second, changes so many lives. I agree with Trisha's godparent - take away their car on the first offense. Make it sting so they'll think twice about driving drunk again. They can't say they didn't know what they were doing because they were drunk. That's BS. Jennifer knew exactly what the judge said in court - she wasn't drunk then! She made a decision - a very poor one at that and who's left to pay? The two families. Nice decision, Jennifer. Nice.
On Effort to decertify union is driving a wedge into Janesville-based business

I come from a union background, but have become an educated consumer on this topic. Consumer you say? Yes - because as a union member, you are essentially paying for a service. What services do they provide? A group of fellow ee's decided to begin the de-cert process. I became very educated on my union, as well as unions in general. Before you decide to keep your union - I recommend you do the same. For instance - how much will you make if you go on strike? How much have you been paying, each week, over the years. Do the two amounts correlate? Most likely - NO! Check out the Tyson situation. What a mess! Their local Pres. went to prison for stealing their money! Nice huh? Check out his great home. Built with the union members money. Great guy, huh? Then - be sure to check out how many Vice Presidents there are in your particular union. Most likely they live or work in PA. It's your responsibility to check these things out. Be sure to find out, not only how many VPs there are, but how much they make a year. Their wages, plus their bonuses and the value of their benefit packages will tick you off! I believe there was a time/place for unions. Low wages, child labor, no labor laws, no worker's comp, etc. But, people! Wake up! We have laws for these things now! Company policies protect the rights of the good ee's and weeds out the leakers. The people that are lazy, have poor work habits, etc. Unions protect these individuals! I'm happy to say, I'm no longer a union supporter. I took it upon myself to take total responsibility for my employment. My employer is great and we have an open-door policy. We have a concern, HR is open to talk. No fear and I can speak for myself. AND - everyone in our plant doesn't know my business!

I'm from Jefferson County and am thrilled to see all of you praising the help you've received. We've had a couple (okay, mainly one!) very vocal whiner here and it's refreshing to see you guys singing the praises of your volunteers! As an active volunteer in Fort Atkinson - I thank you! We've had literally hundreds of volunteers that have pitched in and they've not been thanked for their efforts. You guys are great!!! Keep up the positive attitude!
