On Janesville City Council denies mine request

angry_again, you should get out more and get off the main roads. One of the main reasons we purchased our home was because of the QUIET, peaceful neighborhood with no traffic issues.

On Janesville City Council denies mine request

angry_again,you obviously haven't looked into the situation as there are other neighborhoods that would be affected, not just the homes directly adjacent to the proposed site. We live off of Beloit Ave (East of it) and NOWHERE near the new hospital, and we are strongly against it and how it would affect our neighborhood. I hate when people spout off like they know all about a situation when they obviously don't.

I really wish people would get over the whole idea of this bringing jobs. They're talking about 25 jobs and most of them probably won't even be hired local.

Before everyone goes off about this project creating jobs, you may want to find out where those people filling those jobs are coming from. Does it say anywhere that they will be hiring local people to fill these positions. You might be surprised. It's not all about JOBS!

To correct myself, my post below should read "(on the East side of Beloit Ave.)", not (Prairie Ave.)

As someone else stated, and as Mr. Anderson stated when he came to my door last week, they're only talking MAYBE 20 jobs. And as I found out later, a good number of those jobs wouldn't even be filled by local people.
So, don't push the "this will create jobs" button so quickly. I also would like to say to those of you commenting on the property conditions in the area...how many of you have actually driven down East State Street (on the east side of Prairie Ave.) and in that neighborhood? There's one way in and one way out and most people (unless you live back in there or know someone who lives in there) have never been in the neighborhood or driven down any of those streets back there to know what a quiet, nice, well-kept little neighborhood it really is. You can't just drive down Delavan Drive and make your statements based on that.

On Kids and fundraisers: What are the limits?

Posted on November 24 at 12:43 p.m. ( Suggest removal )

It's ridiculous these days. My daughter is in elementary school in Janesville. The latest fundraiser was hyped up in school (an assembly, I believe), so my daughter came home all excited about the stuff she could win for selling (mostly all garbage in my eyes, but not to a 4th grader). Then we get home and there's a message on the machine from the principal of the school all about it (using the new automated phone thing that the school district has decided to abuse..but that's a whole 'nother subject), then they remind the kids over and over again that they are NOT to go door-to-door selling the stuff because it's too dangerous. So basically, they are sending this stuff home for the parents to sell at work or for the kids to hit up their relatives and/or family friends, who are tired of buying crap. The "fundraising" part of it is NOT about the kids anyway, so why pump them up for a stupid 50 cent plastic toy that they might get for selling a few things? I, for one, am very frustrated with it!

On Control of GM site is key to redevelopment

It would be nice if they could AT LEAST keep up the weeds/grass/landscaping around the Janesville GM Plant! I doubt my neighbors would let ME get away with it if my yard looked like that! Clean it up!!!!
