I agree this is a great story. Does anyone know what educational background differentiates a veterinarian from a wildlife rehabilitator? How does one become a licensed wildlife rehabilitator? Is there a "school" for this? Just curious.

3children - Nope, I guess your right he wasn't a dirty old man having sex with a teenager. He was dirty YOUNG man having sex with a teenager! If you think being younger somehow makes this sex offender's crime more acceptable, I pray you don't have any daughters.

"Nice job Gazette, make a guy feel like an old pervert 38 years after the fact..."
Wow, do we owe this sex offender some sort of courtesy just because what he did happened 38 years ago? Being called a mere "old pervert" sounds pretty merciful to me.

"lost track of Hayden during a miscommunication."
If you're going to engage in a "miscommunication," make sure your holding the hand of your children while your doing it. It makes it a whole lot more difficult to "miscommunicate" when everyone's accounted for and paying attention!!!!!!!! And although it may sound unreasonable,I think 4 kids is too many to keep track of in a place as dangerous as a swimming pool. This was a disaster waiting to happen.!! Thank God it didn't turn out to be one.

916WI-Even if we sold our liquor license and completely stopped operating it as a bar, that building still sits on property that is zoned strictly for commercial business. It doesn't just magically become "private" like a residential piece of property and FOTH's knowledge (of the differences) between these two is just not there. And unless an impartial, licensed attorney can define and interpret what "morally defensible" means in the context of this discussion, FOTH'S use of that term represents nothing more than an "opinion". . . .which he is of course "entitled" to.

gmaof3-I totally agree! I could not even imagine taking my eyes off a 4 year old child for one second near a pool or lake and it makes no difference whether they know how to swim or not. Call me paranoid but I wouldn't even leave a child unattended in a bathtub for any length of time. Drowning can just happen too incredibly fast.

DickTracy-This is a long shot but before you start calling people names and all, . . .do you have ANY idea how deep 42 feet is? Even though we know it was a misprint on the newspapers part, THINK!!!! To GRADUALLY go from zero to 42 feet MIGHT mean Edgerton's swimming pool would have to be the size of say. . . . Lake Koshgonong, Lake Mendota maybe? Seriously man, before you go telling people to "rent a brain" it might be in your best interest to maybe learn how to USE the one you have?

On Whose responsibility is motorcycle safety?

Helmets don't restrict your vision - it's your inability and fear of turning your head that makes you think they restrict your vision. Most people are not comfortable taking thier eyes off pointing straight ahead when on a motorcycle. Just like in drivers ed you have to get comfortable with turning your head with a helmet on.
