On Janesville teacher contract might reopen

Posted on June 9 at 12:26 p.m. ( Suggest removal )

According to the Gazette, there have been many cuts and lay-offs at the school district. I don't recall reading much about city. I would doubt any at the school district would say their contract was a job guarantee. Not to mention over the last couple of years each "group" has agreed to a pay freeze at some point. At the school district they do pay a portion of their health insurance also. Last point; the District and the School Board did not have to approve any of the contracts, they choose to!!

clarity: Apparently you, and many others, are of the mistaken belief that "public employees" are not tax-payers!! Believe it not; teachers, and all other school district, and city workers are also tax-payers...

On Not in my front yard

Fair is fair. If you live within the city limits or non-rural areas you should have a sidewalk! People with sidewalks, whether they wanted them or not, are REQUIRED to maintain them. They can be fined if they are not shoveled in the winter, or sued if someone trips or slips and falls on them. If the city decides the sidewalk needs to be replaced, for any reason, they are required to pay the replacement costs; the homeowner cannot then choose to not have a sidewalk instead of replacing it. Not to mention sidewalks are the safest place for pedestrian traffic and children playing. If you are not required to have a sidewalk than those that are should be able to have theirs removed. If you do not have to shovel a sidewalk in the winter or put salt down so that no one slip, than those with sidewalks should be able to choose not to clean theirs with no consequences…

On Did city make right move on sidewalk shoveling?

Since the city does not require a sidewalk to be present at every residence I don't feel they have the right to require me to do anything with mine!! Why should I have to shovel, or pay anybody to, when there are homes in other areas of town that don't have that same inconvenience? I think before they consider dolling out fines for not clearing sidewalks they should revisit the issue of requiring every resident to have a sidewalk!! I have a sidewalk, but not choice…

Having said that; I live on a side street and I shovel my sidewalk way, way better than the city plows my street - so if they are requiring residents to be down to cement 48 hours after a storm shouldn't they (the City) be required to do the same with my street? As of today, my street still is not down to cement!

On Janesville school budget headed for red

In the past few years when the District’s Health budget came in with an overage the teachers and their union demanded, and were paid, a percentage of the overage. Maybe this year the District should demand the teachers and their union cover a percentage of the shortage…

On Mark Wilf: Vikings still assessing Favre situation

Posted on May 11 at 3:17 p.m. ( Suggest removal )

For at least a couple of years prior to his supposed retirement the media spent the entire off season doing the will he won’t speculation. He of course kept it going long enough to avoid the mini-camps he apparently so dislikes. When he finally made the decision to retired from the Packers he sat at the media conference and cried, after which he proceeded to go on the talk show circuit answering all questions with “What part of I’m retired don’t you people understand!” The Packers waited and after a ‘cooling off period’ offered him his position back which he declined. The Packers made Aaron Rogers their starting quarterback, and apparently that light a fire under Mr. Favre who realized that the team would and could go on without him. Oh no, they can survive without me, I want to come back – TOO LATE!! After much complaining to the media about the team and how Wisconsin / Green Bay fans never treated him right he ends up with another team. Apparently New York fans are not nearly as supportive or appreciative as the Green Bay fans because it only took one season for him to quit (I mean retire) again! Now it all starts over; he’s retired, he wants to come back, and on it goes!

If you look at his record in dome stadiums, especially Minnesota, who knows why they want him other than the media hype he brings. Sounds to me like someone trying to hold onto a dream that has already past them by. Not to mention losing any remaining respect he may have held on to. If you listen to the talking head on ESPN he has become nothing more than a joke… When all his records put him in the hall of fame it will be with a * by his name stating “the man who didn’t know when to leave and kept coming back, and back, and back…” Enough, be a stand up person and stand behind your words and retire already!
