On Do you use self-service checkout counters?

Posted on May 17 at 1:28 p.m. ( Suggest removal )

It all depends on the situation. When I'm at Woodman's, and I only have a few items I have a tendency to use the self-checkouts since they have gotten rid of the "20 items or less" lines because of them. I'm sure I will do the same with the new ones at Walmart. However at the bank I do use the drive thru but that is because I have a 9 month old son. It is much easier to use the drive thru then to get him out of the car and get a out a stroller because it is to difficult to hold him while doing my banking. However, before my son, I always went inside. At the library I do use the self-checkouts, but why I'm not sure. There is really no reason to, it's just as fast to go directly to the person. We live in a technology world that is for sure.

On Janesville residents likely to pay garbage collection fee

Posted on August 10 at 8:48 a.m. ( Suggest removal )

In many cities down by Chicago you have to buy tickets for your garbage. One ticket for each bag of garbage. You don't have to pay anything for recycling. Maybe this isn't such a bad idea. It would force more people to recycle. I know that my husband and I only have one bag of garbage a week and it's not even full.

On Mercury rising

We've ran our air conditioning a lot more than normal this summer but it doesn't help that I am 7 months pregnant and that our house has not one tree large enough (yet) to give us any shade relief. We run our ceiling fans 24/7 but its just not enough to get that humidity out of the air. It sucks when we get the bill but I'd much rather be comfortable and be able to sleep.

On Have you or do you plan to attend a Beloit Snappers baseball game this summer?

Keep in mind also that if you are a member of RCEC for your electric company you can tickets for only $2.00 at their office. Its great inexpensive family entertainment!

On Book or Movie?

I would agree with you 100% on Holes! Great book and great movie. Another good one is October Sky. One of Jake Gyllenhaal's first and in my opinion best movies and a great book as well.

On Paper? Plastic? Just bag it

Posted on February 25 at 12:48 p.m. ( Suggest removal )

Cloth or no bag depending on what I'm buying. I've actually noticed more and more lately, at many stores that ask if you want a bag, especially if it is something little or easy to carry without. The only time I use a paper bag, is every once in while at Woodman's I'll ask for some of the groceries to be put in one, that way I can reuse it to contain my newspapers which I then take down to the Humane Society for re-use.

On What time will you get up to shop Friday, Nov. 27?

Posted on November 25 at 1:05 p.m. ( Suggest removal )

I worked at Target for 6 years and saw the craziness that happens on Black Friday.....however shopping on that day is a family tradition in our family. So I will be going out.....very early!!! We never buy that much but I'm not one to mess with tradition and it always ends up being a great day with lots of memories.

You can also donate the candy to send to the troops. I believe many dentists have collected for that reason in the past.

On Shovel ready: Get prepared now for winter snow shoveling

Zoom - I would highly recommend Porter's on the south side of town. They have very reasonable prices on Toro snow blowers. One of the best purchases we've ever made! Plus they are great down there and the blower comes with a great warranty and service (and its a local business).
