On Are crashes on wintry roads really accidents?

Posted on January 18 at 12:32 p.m. ( Suggest removal )

When I was young I was in a hunter's safety class. I remember the instructor going over hunting "accidents". He made very clear his opinion that there was absolutely no such thing as an accident in hunting "accidents". The word "accident" implies that the scenario was something that could not have been prevented, was something out of any human's control. Every "accident" is the result of someones negligence, recklessness, or lack of knowledge.I have to say that if anything from that class, that discussion has stuck with me for the rest of my life. It is simple and true. Using the word "accident" is something people use to shrug off responsibility. Nearly every "accident" could be prevented somehow, therefore is not really an "accident".

I'm not sure what rock you have had your head under sig, but I travel a bit and nearly every metroplex I have been to runs their buses and other city vehicles on CNG. Many companies with large fleets in the US are switching to CNG. In fact a fortune 50 company in the area is going to soon be changing it's fleet of delivery vehicles over to CNG and installing a compressor system on site to run it. The countries you speak of had CNG because they don't have large networks set up like developed countries do to distribute gasoline. CNG is much easier to distribute around a third world nation than gas or even diesel.

Ah yes the season of giving. Make sure you run out and stock up on all your cheap chintzy chinese made goods, while your neighbors are out of work. Does it feel good to go further into debt to buy products from the very country that holds most of our debt? Anyone who falls for this marketing ploy that's overhyped by corporate greed is a fool. This year our family money will be going into taking a trip somewhere nice and beautiful where we can spend what is really valuable, time with eachother.

On Signs of the times: Rock County tackles concealed carry complications

Vegas: it's already illegal for a person who is concealed carrying with a permit to consume alcohol while carrying. It is utterly rediculous to think that a law abiding concealed carrier is going to suddenly go off the deep end and massacre people over a simple traffic infringement or other simple altercation. People hell bent on killing aren't going to care about your stupid little sign, nor the fact that it's illegal to carry in this building or that. In fact if you research mass killings they are pretty much all done in "target rich environments" or those places which are posted and law abiding folks won't be carrying. This is nothing but a "comfort move". If anything this simply restricts the poeple who do care about the laws and their rights.

Take away their blue jeans and t-shirts to set an example of the work place...yet not the cell phone and MP3 player? Those are two items that are most certainly NOT allowed on factory production floors or most any other work place. Otherwise it sounds like they have a great thing going.

SarahB1, the nra is a representative that speaks for and protects the rights of it's MILLIONS of members. As such most politicians would be best served by working with the NRA. Many people such as myself are dues paying members that pay the NRA to do just that, stand for and speak for our rights, we also speak with our votes. There is not many other "groups" that have the power and voting majority that the members of the NRA represent. If a politician is seen as working with the NRA it is the same as working with their CONSTITUANTS.

I'd like to know exacty how they come up with their "average"., I live in a two adult home and don't remember the last time I saw a "$55" dollar bill. It has been YEARS. Our average is $100. This city with it's continued rising costs is going to do nothing but drive more and more people away. We'll gladly take our dual bachelors degree education household, knowledge, skills, and INCOME to another city or state that can manage it's money better.

A government requiring it's citizens to wear arm bands for exercising their inheritent rights as outlined by the constitution. And walker is the "nazi"? Nice Oreally, real nice.
The UW system is "supposed" to be a place where every right should be honored, protected, and educated about WITHOUT PREJUDICE. Like government it is largely owned by the people, for the people, at the will of the people. Public institutions serve the people, and by proxy should honor and protect the very constitutional rights those people have. Not inflict the will of a few of the leadership down onto the people.

On Committee approves county weapons ban

The job of the govt is to work for the people, at the will of the people. The advisory vote in which the overwhelming majority of the people of WI voted yes to concealed carry a number of years ago shows that the majority of the people in this state believe in concealed carry and want it. It is the responsibility of the government to uphold the constitution, laws, and the will of the people it represents. Not to force ideals down their throat and rule by force. Making someone drop their constitutionally protected rights at the door is not following through on that "mission statement".
