On Social acceptance leads to more open same-sex couples

Posted on August 6 at 8:25 a.m. ( Suggest removal )

Congratulations Amie and Liz on the longevity of your relationship. It's too bad that people have posted some nasty or unnecessary comments on here.

I don't recall reading anywhere in the article that the LGBT community in Janesville was asking for acceptance. The article talks about social change. The reality is...society is changing.

The reality is cops make decisions based on interpretations of the law, opinions, facts, and on a totality of what they believe the circumstances are. I know of at least 2 other cases in the past couple of months where two innocent families went through a similar ordeal. This case could have been forwarded to the DA's office for review before an arrest was ever made if the police thought it was necessary. Unfortunately the officer in this case was hung out to dry because he is a Law Enforcement officer. RCSO doesn't always have your back. The administration is always in too big off a hurry to jump on the band wagon before they get all the facts.

Nice job on the article Katie! It's too bad that people can't look past their own bigotry and treat everyone the same.

On Former Rock County sheriff's deputy pleads not guilty to sex charge

Frogger apparently you need to go back and read previous stories. The girl was not under 18 y/o. Otherwise the charge would have been Sexual Assault of a Child. She was 18. Which means she is an Adult. No one forced her to go to this party and drink alcohol. The comments about her physical condition...until the evidence is brought out during the trial who appointed you judge and jury to decide the man is guilty. There are two sides to this story. Wait until you have all the facts before you start casting stones. Just because someone is arrested that doesn't make them automatically guilty. If you knew anything about law enforcement and how things really work you would understand that. But hey we are all entitled to our opinion and I have stated mine.

Boy people sure are quick to assume people are guilty. The reason the charge was changed from 2nd to 3rd degree...the victim admitted during the prelim she wasn't drunk (had very little to drink) or intoxicated to the point she was incapicitated. Hence, 2nd degree no longer is applicable. Sorry there was no special treatment. The facts didn't support that particular paragraph of the statute. As most of you should know there is always more than one side to a story. Don't be so quick to judge and assume you know what is going on. Think about this...How many of you have been at high school graduation parties where underage kids have been drinking? It doesn't matter what your profession is...you too are just as guilty allowing it to happen. In this case the party was at a house where the underage people were related to people attending the party. People are human and make mistakes regardless of who they are.

Yes this was a tragedy. However...by the time a person reaches the age of 14 he/she knows the difference between right and wrong. No one forced this girl to steal a controlled substance and give it to people. When you make adult decisions you have to suffer the consequences.

There is a BIG difference between the way the adult and juvenile court systems deal with offenders. More often than not juveniles are coddled by the system. Kids never learn because they get a slap on the wrist or home detention.

Sorry but the punishment has to fit the crime.

kman53. Your last comment was inappropriate. What does pending charges for a previous deputy sheriff have to do with this story. Remember innocent until proven guilty. It may be a hard concept to grasp for some, but the comments are irrelevant here and have nothing to do with the story.

On Deputy accused of sex assault resigns post

Wow...What ever happened to innocent until proven guilty? Whether he resigned or not you don't have all the facts. Being at an underage party and allowing underage people to drink is a serious enough violation. The controversy surrounding the WHOLE incident is enough to destroy someone's reputation (even if they are later found innocent of certain violations) and it hurts the LE agency the person works for. Not ALL LE officers make mistakes. There are hundreds of LE officers in Rock County that you NEVER hear about. Don't be so quick to judge people. We have a judicial process for a reason. Just remember there are at least 3 sides to a story. It is not up to any one of us to decide what the truth is until we have all the facts and we are sitting in a jury box.

Remember innocent until proven guilty. There is always more to the story than what is in print.
