On Family files suit in fatal crash

Posted on December 4 at 12:25 p.m. ( Suggest removal )

I can't believe people are defending Mr. Miller. He was driving recklessly and should be held accountable.

intheloop...your argument is ridiculous. You're comparing someone who was intentionally negligent by driving AT LEAST 20 mph over the posted speed limit with someone who misjudged a distance she thought was safe due to the intentional negligence of another driver. Sure, when it comes down to it, they both violated a law, but as another poster pointed out, one person was willfully breaking the law and the other was not.

intheloop...there is a difference between 1 mph over the limit and 10 mph over the limit. They're treated differently in terms of points off the driver's license and amount of the fine because the faster a driver is travelling, the longer it takes to stop and the more likelihood there will be an accident in an unexpected situation, such as a car pulling out from a stop or a child running into the street. Had Mr. Miller not been travelling at 20+ mph over the 35 mph posted limit, this accident would've either not happened or been fairly minimal.

The only reason they concluded she failed to yield right of way is because she pulled in front of a moving vehicle. But, based on the speed limit in that area, she would have been fine had the other driver not been driving DOUBLE the posted speed limit. I think the family has every right to file suit and it sounds like the only reason DA O'Leary didn't file criminal charges was because he was afraid the prosecution wouldn't win. In Wisconsin, if you're on the road and in an accident, you're always partly at fault just for being there. Wisconsin law never places one driver 100% at fault. It's stupid, but true. You can be hit head on by someone crossing the center line drunk and be considered a small % at fault just for being on the road.

The kid who was driving recklessly should be held more accountable for his actions than just getting a $500+ fine. He took a life, even if accidentally, by driving recklessly. He needs to be held accountable.

On Slick roads will create messy commute

We live in Wisconsin. Snow is a part of our lives. The roads are plowed in order of most traveled to least traveled. The city focuses mainly on keeping high traffic areas clear. It sucks when your street doesn't get plowed, but main artery roads are more traveled than Smith Ln. and whatever other side streets we live on. Leave a little early for your destination, drive a little slower, and you should have no problem. If everyone would follow those 2 simple steps it would cut drasticly the number of weather related accidents we see every winter.

This isn't the first, second, or even 3rd time this has happened. He's been diddling his female patients for years. We're only reading about the times he's been charged/accused. Knowing him and knowing former associates and patients of his, I know this has been an issue for a long time. This was not an isolated incident and to suggest this has anything to do with an ex getting revenge is ridiculous.

What I meant by that is that he has a problem with improperly using his hands on female patients. He can't keep his hands off the areas of a woman's body associated with sex. I've seen chiropractors before, and never did they need to cup my groin or chest to do an adjustment. I've met him, I went to school with one of his kids, and I can say personally that he's a creepy dude that should in no way be allowed to be around women/teen girls in a Doc/patient capacity. I sincerely hope his license isn't renewed if he's bold enough to apply for renewal.

Also, according to WKOW's website, Dr. A hasn't paid any of the $103,000 settlement from the 2002 incident.

It's time to take away the creepy doc's license. He has a long history of these accusations. If you're a woman and need to see a chiropractor, this is the last one you should call. Dr. A has no business putting his hands on any woman he is not legally bound to by marriage, and even that is questionable. There is a reason his wife left him and his kids moved as far away as possible. He's a jerk and a sick man. His current license expires on Dec. 14th. Hopefully DRL has enough sense to deny a renewal if he applies.

As long as Russhole keeps collecting fines the city should do fine budget-wise...why not re-elect him?

This is a sad case that has "botched" written all over it. Based on the content of the call alone, the 911 operator should be fired. If this were my wife, daughter, sister, whatever, I'd be livid at how this was handled. Because of the mishandling of the 911 call the killer may never be found. This case should be taught in every class from here on out as an example of how NOT to do your job as a 911 operator. If lowly Rock County can afford a good system, why can't Dane County. This whole case stinks of beaurocratic BS. I'm tired of hearing about decisions being made for financial reasons rather than improving safety/protecting citizens.

On How do you think the state should handle a projected $5 billion budget deficit?

Posted on December 2 at 10:13 a.m. ( Suggest removal )

I think a combination of the 3. People constantly expect everything to get better or at the very least, stay the same, but they don't want to pay for the improvements. The national economy is in the toilet, so it's obvious there will have to be some sacrifices made by all to get back to a balanced budget. Hopefully our elected officials can come up with answers that won't hurt anyone too badly, but one way or another, we'll all have to pay a bit. I would rather see a higher increase in sales tax than income tax. Even another .5% increase in sales tax, if just temporarily, could have a huge impact on the state's budget without having a huge impact on the consumer. To go from 5.5% sales tax to 6% would hardly be noticeable, but to have an increase in income tax would be noticed by everyone because all our paychecks would be smaller.
