this is complete BS. since when do you have to have a permit for a rummage sale, auction, or for that matter having a birthday party at your home, because each of these would increase traffic in the neighborhood. this is just another way for the city to shut down something that would be a great benefit to a great number of people in this city at this time. i think she should go ahead and do it and tell the city to F*** off. she is trying to do something for the betterment of society and the city has to go all political on her ass. as far as having to hold it somewhere else like a church i agree that a lot of people would find it to be uncomfortable going to a church. i myself am not religious and would not go to a church for help. i just find this whole situation ridiculous and i hope she goes ahead with her plans. congratulation to joanne and jared for doing such a great thing for the less fortunate YOU ROCK

On Janesville landlords learn how to prevent hoarding

im a landlord and i was at this "training". if you would have seen the pics that we saw you would have been disgusted. garbage piled so high that it would block entrances. i check my properties exterior once a week. i drive by and check in the yard, pick up any debris in the yard, etc. but you cant go into every unit once a month. that would be impossible in some cases. during the winter i change the furnace filters myself so that gives me a good reason to get in and view the places, but during the summer its more difficult. as far as screening, i do a credit report background check and call everyone listed on the application including the past 2 landlords. the last landlord is not necessarily going to say the tenant is "god". i know alot of the landlords in town and im not going to lie to one of them just to get rid of someone, but the landlord before the last has nothing to lose and will pretty much be straight up with you.

slainte- i agree with your first comment, but just want to add something. i am a landlord in janesville and have been for 8 years, i am a member of the janesville area rental property association. the problem isnt with looking up the info, the problem is with the info providers. for example did you know that ccap doesnt have everything. for some reason i rented to a couple that had jobs, paid in cash every month, seemed to be nice tenants but heres the catch - they were fresh out of prison 2 months before i rented to them and not only that but they were dealing crack out of the house. the only way i found this out was because the neighbors called about an excess of vehicles and i didnt think too much about that really. but then i received a call from the other tenant that the cops had been there like 3 or 4 times in 2 weeks. i never was told about this from anyone else so i called the police department and talked to an officer who confirmed this and asked why i hadnt been informed, he said its not our job to do that. 2 weeks later i received a letter from the police department and the tenant was out in 6 weeks. another thing that you probably didnt know is when a landlord goes to the department and asks for a background check in order to get info on a prospective tenant they make you fill out a form, this takes about 3 or 4 weeks for them to get the info you requested and then mail it to your house and by that time the tenant is already moved somewhere else. so i think there needs to be 2 changes, there should be an email notification system in place in order to let the owner of the home know that a police response took place at the property and also i think the background info should be immediately available up request for us to make a more informed decision on our tenants. just a little insight into the world of landlording

the fact of the matter is that country music does not sell. year after year, we down at riverfest put in one country act every year and that pretty much ended up being the worse night for both attendance and beer sales. the reason i think that they do country is because the 4h is pretty much about the country, horses pigs etc. i feel if they were to bring in more than one rock group per year, even on there shoestring budget that they could get a great attendance count for those days. look at the numbers for foreigner last year, good numbers and the past years were good numbers also. i think i made my point
