You'd be surprised to find out how much confidential secretaries make. It's a WHOLE lot more than the secretaries covered under the union!!
As for social workers, yes, a couple of social workers and counselors were laid off. I think most (not all) were eventually rehired by the district in some capacity.

Seriously?? The school district can't even afford $3000 for the annual 4th & 5th grade track meet in the spring. While most of that group deserves to have the raise, it really isn't possible right now. (Unless, $6 million plus is SUDDENLY found.)

Wilson is the worst school to close. There is a very high poverty level at that school. Most of the children walk to school due to transportation issues. If they close Wilson, how would these students get to schools that are much further away? I think it was a very wise decision to take Wilson (and Jackson) out of the mix. Obviously, that makes the odds of my children's school closing. I'm not fan of that, but the school district needs to find more efficient way to run the school district.

I definitely think they should rethink the hours of the pools. Rockport has always been busy when we've been there after 5pm! How can working families ever enjoy the pool with their kids? Apparently, the city doesn't care!

The Blains have done a wonderful service to Janesville. It took them awhile to catch up. I still remember when they were closed on Sundays and did not take credit cards. I'm not surprised by all the complainers. I don't think they appreciate any nice story printed in the gazette!
