On UW-Madison settles 'W' lawsuit with Kansas school

Posted on September 16 at 3:52 p.m. ( Suggest removal )

I have seen the identical "Motion W" on a high school kid's cap in Ohio as well. It was red as well, and the first time I saw it, I said, "It sure is good to see another Badger fan around here." I was quickly corrected and never made that mistake again.

Perhaps I should tell the U of Wis people about this and have that high school sued as well!

On Trial in baseball bat murder begins

Thanks, Mikki, for saying that.

Perhaps I can make it a little simpler for those I "offended":

I was referring only to the bad wording of the headline that the Gazette printed, nothing more.

You don't know how much stuff I see in these blogs that could offend me, but I've learned to take it in stride.

Read the headline "Trial in baseball bat murder begins". Doesn't that sound misleading? What I was trying to point out is that there should have been a better way of wording it.

I'm sorry if people think that I was ridiculing the person who was killed. That was not the intention.

Who murdered the baseball bat? I wonder how much time you get in prison for murdering a baseball bat?

On Permitting underage children to drink at home is a question of parenting, not the law

officerfriendly1-

"Less government and less taxes equals more FREEDOM! I surely don't need some "feel good liberal" in Madison telling me what is best for MY children."

The drinking age was lowered in '71 or '72, to age 18, because the majority of people felt that if you were forced (via the draft) to fight and die for your country, you should be old enough to drink.

It was in 1984, during Reagan's reign (a Republican who felt the need to impose this government interference) that the Federal drinking age was raised back to 21. Those states that initially refused were threatened with having their Federal highway dollars withheld until they complied.

So, it was some "feel-good conservative" who took that freedom away. Don't blame everything on the Democrats.

Sorry, just getting caught up on the blogs here. NannyBeachBum, you have given this "oldtimer" the laugh of the day. Probably have been on a computer and online before you were even born ;-)

I'm in my mid-50's, and live in Toronto, near downtown. I don't own a car here, so I do a lot of bicycling to get places, and I think I'm in pretty good health and shape as well (not senile yet).

When I'm not outdoors or working, I am on the computer and get news from many sources. I rarely even watch TV anymore---so little time, so much to see and do!

But not heading for the rocking chair just yet :-)

I haven't lived in Janesville for at 35 years now, and I presently live in another country. This makes it difficult to subscribe to the Gazette print version.

I like the online version, as it allows me to see news about Janesville. It has been especially useful during all the storms and flooding, because I still have family and friends who live in Janesville.

I appreciate being able to get news about Janesville online, and I hope the GazetteXtra will be available for a long time to come.

On Sales of most locally made trucks fall in June

thekid3477:

Yes GM is an American company, and the profits from the Oshawa truck plant went to the American owners of GM. But having trucks built by Canadians will be a moot point soon.

My point is, is that the CAW guys I talked to did not diss American auto workers, and I said nothing but good things about Janesville workers. However, I may not be so kind in the future.

Oh, by the way, if you want to live somewhere where you can smoke your pot legally, come live in Canada.

the kid 3477: "shut down the plant in canada, not janesville, absolutely. "

News flash for you:
http://www.financialpost.com/most_popula...

The GM truck plant in Oshawa, Ontario is also being closed. This will affect other companies, like Lear in Ajax, Ontario.

I talked with a couple of CAW people this past weekend, and while they will be hurting every bit as much as the Janesville plant, they KNOW there is a plant in Janesville and are deeply sympathetic with the UAW workers at the GM plant. I did not hear one comment about wishing they would shut down Janesville's plant and keep Oshawa's plant open, but I see the reverse is not applicable in Janesville.

I have not said one word against the workers and the plant closing in Janesville, but I can now see why people would have negative views about the GM workers in Janesville.
