On Officials wait to comment on GM annoucement

I am not sure where the quote of a proposal to buy Zachow's came from; I believe the Gazette is misinformed.
Zachow's Bar was purchased by the Zachow family in 1968, it has been family owned and operated since that time. The tavern sits on its own property and is not on GM property in any way.
In 2005, the third generation owner purchased the business and quickly established what had been strictly a “GM break bar” to a regular neighborhood tavern; which has a Cheers-like quality to it. Yes, they know everyone’s name.
At no time has any one expressed any interest in purchasing this property.
Mr. Cullen did make a generic, random statement on the Stan Milam Show regarding opening a daycare, however, no proposal or offer has ever been made to the Zachow family.
This tavern that has been in continuous operation since 1934; when it was called Knights Cafe. It was owned by Frank Knight.
At that time it was a café, ice cream shop and tavern all in one.
It has had 7 owners since 1934.
If at any time since 1934, had GM or any other person wanted to purchase this property, I am sure it could have been done.

When I was born, my parents lived in this house.
I lived there until I was 13.
It was a great neighborhood to grow up in !
I remember there was a Fort above the garage; we had to climb up the wall to get to it.
I also buried some of my Star Wars figures under one of the trees, I wonder if they are still there !

Sorry but you are wrong about the ghost town. Have you even been to either Game Day or Zachow's ? I suggest you take the time to visit before you speculate.
Both are doing very well despite the fact that GM is closed.
Zachow's has expanded their hours and currently sponsor more dart teams than any one else in Janesville.
Instead of spreading rumors about local businesses, maybe you should try to support them.
(Sorry If I sound harsh.)

Zachow's Bar is also having GM Appreciation Days (see the advertisement in the JVL Gazette on Mon. Dec. 22nd).
From January 5 thru January 8, Zachow's Bar is having specials for all GM employees and retirees.

Localboy:
Not sure where you got your "facts" from, but you are incorrect.
"Ma" and "Pa" Zachow bought the land and building in 1968, they sold to Jim and Mary Zachow-who have now sold to their son.
This business has been family owned and operated since 1968 and during that time NO OFFER has ever been made by GM or any other company to purchase the land or the building.
The "myth" that GM has tried to buy that land has been around for years and is simply untrue.

To localboysince1968:
Your post is hilarious!
You are completely wrong when you state that the Zachow's refused to sell their property, at no point since Zachow's bought this property in 1968 has GM or any other company ever offered to purchase this property.
Jim and Mary Zachow sold the bar 3 1/2 years ago.
The current owner’s are not "hicks' (whatever that means); they are both Janesville natives and college educated. Oh and they have never even met Ms. Briarmoon.
You comments are weird and delusional.

You post is very nice.
Zachow's Bar has been family owned and operated since 1968.
The building itself has been in business since 1930.
From about 1933 to 1937 is was owned by Frank Knight and was called Knights Cafe. They served food, ice cream and alcohol.
It changed hands about 7 or 8 times before the Zachow family bought it around 1968.

This tavern sits on its own property and is NOT "inside the gates of GM".
Also, this tavern has nothing to do with the financial problems of GM.
To think a tavern would be the cause of GM's finanical problems is ignorant.

I would like to correct your statement.
There is no bar located "ON GM PROPERTY" as you state.
The bar you are talking about is located near GM but on located on its own property.

Your comment is so random and weird.
Perhaps you should do your homework before posting such silliness.
Zachow's Bar has not been "Zachow's Bar" since 2005- when it was sold to the current (3rd generation) owner.
The building is not "run-down" nor is it "crying to be saved".
Had you ever been inside, you would see that it is a very nice neighborhood bar and was remodeled in 2005 !
They have a wonderful following, getting quite busy on weekend. They currently sponsor more dart teams than any other bar in JVL and overall, (considering the current economy) they are doing very well.
The ONLY accurate comment in our post was the fact that the building does have a long history and has been in continuous operation since 1934.
From 1934 to 1937 it was called Knight's Cafe and was owned by Frank Knight, it was a restaurant, ice cream shop and bar all-in-one. When the remodel was done in 2005, numerous receipts from 1934-1937 were found in the ceiling-which were preserved and are on display.
Please take the time to educate yourself before making such random, weird comments.
