On Rock County 4-H Fair announces 2010 mainstage lineup

Spunk, you are correct. Part of the reason that more rock acts aren’t at the fair is because they are more costly. But what most people don’t realize is that its more than just the cost of the act. The Fair provides meals (2-3 per day from 5-25 people at each meal), as well as food for the dressing room, and sometimes a little food for the bus. Plus, the Fair has to provide a hotel room (or two or four) for them to use while they are in town. There are a lot of costs that go into getting an act at the fair that add up fast. Also, the acts have to be “family appropriate” (for the most part), as this is a 4H Fair, which means its “for the kids,” so that can limit what kinds of acts can be brought in as well.
Wow. Mrbadger. You know nothing about me, and are far, far off in your estimations. I have never set foot in GM, don’t eat McDonald’s, nor do I frequent DD. I am far from that. But who/what I am has nothing to do with the topic at hand.
I guarantee you don’t have a clue what the fair board does. Their job is never ending. They meet year-round and do the best job they can to provide the best entertainment possible while trying to stay out of the red zone. Like I said before, country acts bring in the money. The other acts don’t.
Yeah, the Midway is a rip-off, but the Fair doesn’t set those prices, Farrow Amusements does, so there is nothing that the Fair can do about that. And its not the Sheriff’s job to run people for warrants. Its their job to try to make sure nothing stupid happens, and they can only do so much. Remember, the rest of the county needs them as well.

Thank you, Spunk. Moonstone, I love country music and have never watched a NASCAR race in my life. :D Don’t judge people based on their music preferences. Snazzy, go pop a Prozac or something. You have issues apparently. You come on here and personally attack people you don’t know just because you don’t like country music; that’s very mature of you! If this county were full of rock fans, then the fair would continue to book rock acts, but its not. That is proven every time the board attempts to book one; attendance is down for the day. These acts are not “nobodys or has-beens” as others have pointed out. They are fairly new acts, each of which has had one or more hits and have won awards. They will bring in a great crowd. I never mentioned in my post that the fair “is making record breaking sales and profits.” I said that it is a business and needs to make money. Country acts help to do that; rock acts don’t. As for you calling me a “bold face liar” and “dummy,” again, very mature of you. You said that a “full line up of country will not sell.” You are wrong. Every year it sells. You are a bitter person, and all because you don’t like country music.
BeenThere is correct. Michelle Branch did cancel at the last minute. And when Foreigner was originally supposed to perform one of the members had to have an emergency surgery so they couldn’t make it. But they were there the next year, right in the middle of their European Tour, to ensure that they didn’t let the fair down.

OK, so I didn't bother to read all of the responses, but I will respond anyhow, having read enough to know that 99.9% of you know nothing about how the RC4H Fair works. I work very closely with the entertainment at the fair, so I have an idea of what goes on.
This is one hell of a line-up, first off. These acts will bring in lots of revenue for the fair, which is required to keep operating. The fair makes money from all of the vendors, the rides, and most of all a nice chunk from merchandies sales. There have to be people there for the show to sell merchandise, and thus, to make money.
Have any of you that are complaining about this lineup ever been to the fair on a night that is not having a country act? If you have been, then you would know that the crowds are much, MUCH smaller, thus bringing in a lot less revenue for the fair. The fair is a business. It must make money to operate.
The Fair Board has done a great job trying to incorporate different types of music and entertainment into the week, while also working within their budget. Believe me, I've seen the contracts for these acts and some of them aren't cheap. Its usually the ones that you would think are going to be the least expensive that cost the most (ie: Loverboy).
The fact is, YES this county is FULL of country music fans. That is proven and reaffirmed every year when the people from this county flock the the RC4H Fair for the acts that the Fair Board works so hard to get to come to OUR county.

But at her dad's there is a set routine - homework and nightly reading and baths, as well as any forms needing to be read or signed. Its clear who takes the child's needs into consideration. However when it comes to support he just pays the mother to go away, in a sense, because the child is much better with he and my sister, but he doesn't want her to try to take her out of their home (which she does if she doesn't get her way with him). (No, I don't say this because she's my sister; if you knew these people and the situation you would agree too.)
So tell me, jvilledr, how that fits into your perfect view of the system. It is quite obvious that you are the one who is wrong and has no clue what you are talking about.

As for the person who asked why lawyers need to be involved... I do think that they are necessary to an extent, but more at the level of guardian-at-litem (GAL). A GAL is supposed to talk to the parents and children each separately, as well as (often times) teachers, counselors and other adults in the child's life, and they make the decision based on all info gathered, what is best for the kids. But yes, I do think that sometimes its not necessary for lawyers for the parents, but sometimes it is.

1) My aunt was dating a man that was bringing home checks for $35 A WEEK (sometimes less) from his 40 hour/week job with 50/50 custody with his ex because she was always dragging him back to court for more. Nope, getting 90% of his check plus insurance coverage for herself & their two children and ALL of her attorney fees was not enough. At times he could barely afford to buy food for himself.
2) This same aunt has 50/50 with her ex, yet he pays her child support because he makes more a week than she does. (They both work 40/week.)
3) My sister's finace pays his daughter's mother (or egg donor as we call her) about $35/week and they have 50/50. However my sister and her fiance pay for EVERYTHING (food, clothing, school fees/supplies, medical expenses, sports, you name it, they pay for it) for his daughter. She is with them all but a few nights a month. The mother picks her up when its convenient (usually, when she gets a new flavor-of-the month), or to make sure that her daughter can't do something she is looking forward to doing with her father. The mother barely works but never has her child. And even when she has the child the child is usually with a babysitter or one of her older brothers (one of whom nearly died of a heroin OD this past summer). The daughter is now eight but in the past when she was with the mother more, she would be late to school nearly everyday because the mother would be too lazy to get up or the daughter would say "I don't feel good" (never anything wrong with her though-she learned to play this card well) or "I don't wanna go" and that would be that-no school that day! There was no set bed time, so getting up in the morning was a struggle and came with lots of bad attitude and mouthing off, which would carry throughout the day, even when she got home to her dad's. Even now, the few school nights she spends there, no homework or nightly reading is done. No permission slips read or signed. Nothing. Often times she returns to her dad's house after two to three days wearing the same underwear she left in, and needing a bath because she hadn't had one. The mother would rather go out drinking with her friends than care for her child. The mother has gone without seeing this child on her birthday, Christmas, and many other holidays, and often doesn't call. She used to bad talk my sister and the dad, but thankfully the child is realizing that her mother is wrong, and is realizing this on her own. (As my sister and I are from a divorced family, we fully understand in our family the importance of NOT speaking ill about the other parent when the child is around so that she can form her own opinions.)

Swisschick - not all child support is garnished from paychecks. That usually happens when there is a court order, or an agreement to do so. Otherwise, the paying parent just sends the money to the state, or to the other parent if that's the arrangement.

hiii98 - You are wrong about the staff at Quotes. I know first-hand that the bouncers ask the patrons that are causing problems to leave before using any sort of force, but hannah stated, people aren't just going to leave if you ask them if they are causing problems. Usually, by then they are too drunk to care and have that "liquid courage" flowing through their veins so they don't care.
Yes, there have been incidents in the past at Quotes, but that was years ago. Things are different down there, thanks to the security staff working to keep trouble out of the bar.
And as for them never calling the cops, if you recall the article where the JPD reported the number of contacts a number of local establishments have had with the police, Quotes had the highest number. That is because the security staff will call JPD if they need to, for anything from verifying an ID if they believe it to be false, to getting someone that is causing trouble out of their bar. Quotes security staff is more than willing to work with the JPD, and makes contact with officers often, when it is needed, and on occasion, if a bouncer sees an officer he will talk to him and just let him know how things are going down at the bar, or downtown.
So please, before you make these conclusions, know what's going on. You yourself said you no longer frequent Quotes, so don't make judgements about the "new" security there based on the past problems they have had.
And yes I agree, Quotes is one of the cleaner and more organized bars in Janesville, despite the problems that they may face or have faced in the past (which are no different than any other bar).

teacher2b, when I began reading some posts I immediately thought of the same bumper sticker as you, so I thought it fitting to (attempt) to post it on here for all. However, apparently you can't post pictures within these comments, so here is the link.

mgmgrand-your comments about proper training are exactly what I was talking about in regards to concealed carry. And as for employees being able to have weapons, they should go through training just like everyone else. However, I think maybe MORE training, in regards to the situations they may face. Sorry if I weren't more clear earlier about that earlier!
