On Janesville School District superintendent details potential budget cuts

Cut Athletics - are you kidding me? We have an obesity problem in this country! Bad enough students only have phy-ed one semester a year (required), now cut athletics? Raise tuition or taxes. I've always thought it was strange that I could send my kid to school for under $50 a year. Cut the clerical staff? Who would Karen have to do her dirty work? I think cutting the administrators salaries would be a great benefit. I thought this year's plan was to cut the Athletic Director and that Monte Phillips, VP @ both high schools would also take care of the athletic schedules? Not so at Craig - the AD position is still there.

Congrats! My son was on the 2007 World Series Babe Ruth team and we got coverage like nobody's business...what gives. I know the highlight of our boys' days was the articles in the paper. They loved making Janesville proud - give these boys that chance too!

I see both sides...my friend is a teacher. The teachers were willing to reopen - it was the lawyers (go figure) who advised them against it. Most of the teachers I talk to would rather pay more insurance and retirement than lose their jobs.
Walker is trying to help the budget, but his tactics are not working. You cannot walk into an elected position and bully your way through to the next election. It doesn't work. This nation has been built on working together for a common goal...Walker needs to learn how to do that.

We can't make it to the end of the year without replacing him? As it is Monte Phillips will be divided between Craig and Parker next year.

So frustrating...do you realize that not everyone pays the annual school fees? Some don't even pay for the yearbook - yet they receive the education and the yearbook. My ex-sister-in-law is case in point. Her opinion is that because of attendance laws her kids won't get kicked out of school for not paying the fees. GUESS WHAT! Her kids never did - they got a free education. I say raise the annual fee a bit and raise the athletic fees. I have two entering high school next year - I will pay more if it means they can get more education and athletics.

I was on I90 when this happened...WCLO did not make any announcements about this accident. I sat in traffic for 1 hour before being allowed to use a turnaround right after the weigh station. One entire hour and WCLO did not make one single announcement.

Our twins did this when they were 3 - except my husband did NOT leave the van running. The keys were on the seat and the twins figured out how to put it in the ignition and pulled the gear shift to neutral climbing over each other. They ended up in the neighbor's pine tree. We still tease them about it.

On Pay raise proposal sent to Janesville School Board

Dr Schulte may not have started the problem, but she continues to perpetuate it. Many people in the private sector pay their own insurance, contribute to their retirement and have not received pay increases in a few years. I don't mind paying more taxes for a quality education for my children, but give it where it's needed...not to those that already make $100K+ a year. Put it into technology, better meal plans, and supplies for the kids.
Also if the board is looking to cut athletics then we don't need an Athletic Director, right? OOPS! Is she going to raise his administrator salary to make up for the loss of his AD pay?
