On Tough year for Janesville school budget
Posted on October 5 at 2:21 p.m. ( Suggest removal )
The average Janesville home is no longer worth $141,000. There are east side 3 bedroom ranches for sale for $95,000 and still on the market 2 months later. You can get a top end home in Janesville for $141,000--but who is buying? Perhaps a real estate guru can intercede. This is why I voted NO to the referendum.

oh and by the way, Why is Mercy Health System donating furniture to the schools? I would think they should be watching their pennies w/ health care reform right around the corner. That seems to be a bit puzzling!

I sure hope we have enough kids to fill up these very expensive nice looking updated buildings. I can hardly wait to see the census numbers for this school year--and wonder if we will have enough to even have Class A sporting events. Many employees that worked at GM have had to take transfers out of this town and are already gone--homes for sale, etc. Arlington, Kansas City, Fort Wayne Indiana. Lear ee's that were UAW ee's went to the Osh Kosh plant to build military vehicles. Stay tuned for the census. I voted NO for the unreasonable $70,000,000 referendum.
On Janesville sidewalks could be cut

justsome1here --so you would rather everyone share in the cost of something not needed. Want vs need! Sounds like you must be interested in paying more taxes. I am not! We are all paying extra taxes for unneeded school buildings that are going to be empty. I am not interested in paying anymore taxes. When Obama gets done w/all of his initiatives we are all going to be paying so much more tax for the rest of our born days! Thank you City Government officials for being cost sensitive during these tough economic times. NO MORE unnecessary spending--we are in a recession!

I praise our City Council for thinking about the resident homeowners. There are too many houses for sale; empty businesses and soon to be empty schools. With our fellow citizens voting for the 70+ million dollar referendum a few years ago; with GM closing and its trickle down effect; and with our State government spending like they have all the money in the world; it is great to see our Janeville City officials taking stances. I am also thankful that our School Board is cutting expenses as well. We ALL have to be more money conscious, so should our government. WALK on the GRASS! If you need to get a work out, maybe the empty schools can be rented out or used by the tax payers!
On Layoffs possible in Janesville schools

Voted NO for Referendum for this exact reason!
WHY?
Every UAW contract (every 3-4 years) for the past 25 years has been unsettling as to whether or not GM was going to stay in Janesville. Janesville plant was the oldest in the whole nation!
This cannot be a surprise that teachers are going to be layed off.
Sad that we have these beautiful buildings with not enough kids! Sad that we had to see the largest school referendum in the STATE of WI pass in the city with the largest risk!

On Poll: Majority of Wis. residents want universal care

To all who think Universal Health Care is a good idea, Do you agree to have your income taxes go into the 55% range, like Germany, England, France, Canada? Could you afford that? Are you willing to hire a United States lawyer in order to have your chemo-therapy, radiation treatment or have your relative die prematurely as they wait on the long list for services. The average wait time for preventitive tests are 9-12 months. If you have cancer--expect a 6 month wait for chemo!
Will our best and brightest students become physicians when they are mandated by government to take care of their allotted patients at reduced income? Where will our technology advances go? Will the government get you the best treatment money can buy--think again! Will I get my digital mammogram or will I get whatever is available?
Only the Wealthy Foreigners can afford to fly into the United States because we have the freedom and best Health Care, technology, treatment options in the World. Why do many foreigners come to our country to live and work here? Because we have the best health care in the world! We will not maintain these high standards of care with National Health Care.
70% of all health care dollars go to take care of preventable diseases like diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, depression, congestive heart failure--which are all linked to lifestyle choices. Obesity, smoking, and lack of exercise contribute to the added insurance costs. If everyone would take some responsibility for their own health and begin a few healthy choices, we would experience a more favorable rate increase from our health insurance carriers.
I stress to the Janesville Mom writing, please get to the doctor to get your preventitive testing done. You may have high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes and not even know it! Prevention is key. Taking good care of ourselves is a lot of the answer!

On Rock River System Slot Limit?

If you spent any time on the River fishing you would know they do spawn there.Seen it many times.Walleyes do not jump in the boat you have to work at the sport. Where do you find all these people that say we need slot limits? Northern Wisconsin lakes have limits because the DNR does not stock regularly because of so called budget problems.Sounds like you needed a topic before print deadline.
