On Council backs ice arena

Posted on October 29 at 10:17 a.m. ( Suggest removal )

SarahB also doesn't realize that the Beloit and Janesville hockey club have a co-op program for girls hockey players at all levels. We already work together as a Beloit/Janesville effort. Also, as you post on this blog you may also note that in the Gazette today they share that the Hendricks family is working on a joint economic development team with Janesville. Lets put the past behind us and look toward a bright future for our communities.

On Should the Janesville City Council support construction of a new ice arena or spend money on the existing arena?

Perhaps if the city was more progressive, and we had more to offer in terms of business, entertainment and quality of life, more residents would move here and share the tax burden. I personally don't think not doing anything for the community is going to get us anywhere. You have to spend money to make money. If we leave our commnunity as it is, youre right, you won't be able to sell your house, because nobody will want to move here. Most people are willing to pay higher taxes to live in a nicer community....

The people that are voting to spend (waste) the money on renovating the current ice arena are the same people that will be up in arms in a few years when the program needs two sheets of ice and more parking. When they need to build a second rink they will be saying "why did our city government waste money". Typical.

On Levitt: Put new Janesville rink on ice

Janesville Hockey Club has a team for Levitt and he lives in Janesville, therefore he will not be allowed to transfer clubs?

On Gov. Doyle to make passenger rail announcement

Hummm...I know of a large empty manufacturing facility in the area and a community with laborors looking for jobs that could build and serve as a maintanance facility for these trains?
I also believe that individuals need to be open minded and change their way of transportation due to the future of our economy and our environment.
If we haven't used rail in the past we should be willing to accomodate it now! And the walk from the station to our jobs or activities could also be good for getting our sedentary society more active.

On One 'probable' swine flu case reported in Rock County

gabby06, Let's just hope that if someone has symptoms, they have the sense to go in to be tested so that they aren't exposing others. The deaths from the common flu are most typically elderly with already compromised immune systems, or very tiny infants. Healthy individuals do NOT have built up immunity to this strain so I don't think people are overreacting at this point. The lack of immunity also makes this strain highly contagious from what I have read.

On Janesville man dies in possible drug overdose

Unfortunately to many people are not educated about addiction (woodsman) and speak such insensitive words, because of a lack of information, education and understanding about an issue. I think the Gazette should not have this article open for blog.

On Vote brings hockey team step closer

I have made this point, and I will make it again. The high school hockey program AND the proposed Jr. team kids (that are still school age) BRING money to the school district. Every time a child school choices to Janesville for hockey, the district gets money. If you let the ice arena go, the school will lose more enrollment and lose more kids....hense teachers. I am very glad to hear the public concerned about the schools and teachers. Janesville is a great district and the kids benifit from taxpayers that are concerned about their welfare.
