On Senior citizens who survived without air conditioning say youngsters can, too

Posted on July 20 at 9:31 a.m. ( Suggest removal )

My parents didn't have an A/C when I was small, but I could have cared less, I was outside riding my bike, or playing ALL day in the local swimming hole. By the time I did get home I was so exhausted, that I would collapse into bed and not wake up til the morning to do it all over again. My parents did eventually upgrade and got a new heating/ cooling system when the heating system we had nearly killed us from carbon monoxide poisoning. But by then, I again could have cared less, because I was either in school, after school sports, or working.

Now that I am an adult, I work in an air-conditioned building, and I can't wait to get home and go outside and play (mu hubby thinks I'm nuts, but he works outside in construction all day). Even last night after dinner was done, my son & I sat outside in his kiddie pool & played. Don't get me wrong though - after we were done swimming - I walked into my air-conditioned house & relaxed!! Hey - I am over 8 months pregnant, I am not above having the A/C on!!

On Questions about Mercy’s new emergency department

I am going to be an outsider here and say that I will be grateful to Mercy, quite possibly, forever. The doctors saved my son's life (twice), even before he was born.

That being said, I am with the majority of comments that I think they are trying to 'one up' the competition. Will they quite honestly be able to start & COMPLETE this project in the time frame they are anticipating? Look at the Mercy East project. How long has that taken?!

On Get ready to go roundabout

"One last comment: if you can't figure out how to use a roundabout then you don't have the brain capacity to drive."

AMEN! I have a neighbor, or someone who drives through the neighborhood regularly, who has absolutley no clue how to drive in a roundabout. She has *almost* hit me multiple times. Apparently the yield sign upon entrance, does not apply to her.

I am all for roundabouts and for keeping the traffic flowing!

If you really can't figure out how to drive in one, might I suggest you enroll in some driver's-ed classes and get a refresher course.

If you are above that - I have an option of another mode of transportation - a bicycle.

On What’s your favorite Rock County restaurant?

I enjoy the Stagecoach, as well as Milton Family Restaurant. Great food, staff, and the owners REALLY care. Mario's Pizza in Edgerton is pretty good too.

No, the Packers didn't steal the game. It was gift wrapped and given to them by Farve. How many interceptions were there, that were scored on? It did help that the Viqueens couldn't stay inbounds when they tried to score. I giggled when they pouted each time afterwards when the TD was taken away from them. <Happy dance!>

On Three Milton schools add breakfast as need continues to grow

Kids at Northside are (where they started the program) are MORE than capable of getting theirselves food - whether it be a bowl of cereal or a PB&J sandwich + fruit. Really? You don't have to have a full buffet of food just to get the engines firing in the a.m.

I personally feel that the free meal system shouldn't be an everyday type thing. You get it 4 times a month, the other days of the week - eat what WIC or food stamps are providing.

Are we teaching these people to get up off their knees and figure things out so they can support themselves, or are we teaching them to be lazy and rely on the system?

On Some hairy responses to my request

My husband asks me to shave his chest and back for him. He, too, saw 40 Year Old Virgin, and won't go that far. The whole shaving his chest/ back actually started when I was cutting his hair, and had the trimmer out. He was picking at me, I got got revenge, and shaved a nice stipe right across the front of his chest. Thus started the shaving of the chest. He plays for a local football organization with full pads/gear, and the necessity to shave now is to not get any hairs caught in the gear - which I hear is not a pleasant experience!
