On City responds to plowing complaints

I agree with you shagcarpet, it's not about immediate removal - for me it's about safety, where I'm at, it does not matter who fast or slow you drive, the curves that are on the street being covered with ice is treacherous regardless of speed. Unfortunately spinmaster I'm not so concerned with my lawn, I can fix that, that's part of the seasons of Wisconsin, frustrating as it may be, but I would much rather have my lawn ripped to shreds than someone killed or injured in my front lawn due to the poor road conditions.

hey localboysince1968...nowhere did I say I was from Beloit, I live in the city of Janesville, nice try though. I too have been driving for decades in WI and have never been ditch bound or the like - that's not the issue here. If our tax money is going to Beloit, well, that's something that our city officials should be handling if there aren't enough funds for our city.

Here's a thought...plow the streets and manage your city...problem solved...no complaints. I could probably drive on any back country road in the middle of nowhere that has been blanketed with multiple feet of snow and have better road conditions than this city. Each call is logged and put on a list...woohoo! Maybe I'll sit and videotape the traffic on my street sliding and slamming into light poles and mailboxes and they can add that to their little list. I might as well just throw my tax money down the drain and save the city some time because they seem to be doing a pretty good job of it when it comes to snow management and street conditions.

This is ridiculous. No, don't blame the plow drivers, you're right, they do what they are told. By none other than our city governing officials. I do wonder though as my mailbox was yesterday just hit because they have chosen to omit my street and not plow it but one time so far and the street is now a multi-block ice skating rink - what it is going to take for the city to wake up. I'm guessing that it will take a child walking to school getting hit or killed and then for the driver to be blamed because the city poorly managed their budget and spent too much time researching a tunnel under a busy road. So the city only plows 'arterial' residential streets at their convenience...I forget...can I pay my property taxes at my convenience? Because I don't live on a 'non-arterial' (translation - not EXTREMELY busy) street, I don't get plowed or treated the same? I guess it is cheaper to not plow and then wait for an accident to occur and then send 4 or 5 city police, some fire and rescue workers and paramedics than it is to plow and be PROACTIVE up front...HMM?? As I said in a post on another article...these are the same brainiac governing 'folks' who will wonder why people complain about Janesville, move away, look elsewhere for schools, jobs, etc. Seriously somewhere in this city, the governing officials need to get it together - this is Wisconsin, news flash, we have snow, we need snow removal and road treatment. Ridiculous.

rexkramer - you took the words right out of my mouth. What a joke. I'm so glad I give these people my tax dollars so that I can wait. And they wonder why people move out of Janesville or look elsewhere for education, services, jobs, etc. It's because of poor judgement and irrational decisions like these. How irritating. I'm not saying I could do better as a whole but there are certain things I surely wouldn't skimp on - and public safety sure seems to find a place in the top 3 if you ask me. But, hey, that's okay, let's have a bunch of accidents so that our emergency services people are busy tending to them that could have otherwise been prevented - how's that fit into the budget folks?

First, I apologize. I haven't read through all of the comments yet so if I repeat, I'm sorry.
Hmm, so the city has chosen only to go through my street once since the snow and icy weather started resulting in every intersection and curve being literally a sheet of ice and has now resulted in mailboxes being hit. Next thing you know it will be a child or a person walking to school and it'll be the driver's fault because they were going too fast or something. At what point do we start to sacrifice community safety and the safety of our drivers and pedestrians in order to save money? I guess we're there...talk about a decision that makes little sense. Don't get me wrong, I know things cost money, but with all due respect, I am SURE there are other things that could get cut from spending in order to assure the safety of the city's residents. It's your job city government, make it happen, make your city desirable otherwise don't sit back and wonder why people move away when they have become fed up with what happens in it. Just Ridiculous.

Holy Moly! I somehow missed this article. 3 years after an audit and things were not resolved?! I would have lost my job 30 months ago not to mention any clients I have. What a joke! In regards to the engineer search, it certainly could have not been TOO extensive because there are plenty of people out there, myself included, who are qualified, probably overqualified by the sounds of it, that would at least entertain the idea of a position in the educational sector for the first time or again in my case. Something is clearly not right if it takes you that long to fill a position, especially an IT one.
The solutions here are quite simple but complex at the same time: 1) If you don't have the funds for a powerful AV Solution like Symantec or the like, albeit difficult, use a free one. OR 2) Do your homework and seek out grants, heck grovel at the doorstep of Symantec - you never know unless you ask.
This whole situation is very unfortunate and clearly could have been prevented. I read this and I ask myself, why were the recommendations of that audit not put into place in some way, shape or form promptly? Otherwise, you might as well of just thrown that money used to hire them directly in the Rock River.
I agree with Frusion, there are a number of folks, Bunton included, who are danged lucky to have their jobs or positions because I can guarantee I would not, and if they worked for me and didn't at a bare minimum at least accept responsibility, I would send them packing.

One more thing - janesvillecomments earlier went through and showed that they have themselves well protected.
In light of that, I just stumbled upon this offer by ZoneAlarm that until 6AM on the 19th, they are giving away the Pro version of their software in celebration of them being around for 10 years.
I am in no way affiliated with them but know that if you're like me and given the state of our economy, free is free and ZoneAlarm is reputable enough to where they aren't going to bombard you with garbage.
I don't know what the appropriate rules are for posting links so, if you are interested, contact me and I'll send it to you unless someone knows otherwise.
Good Day!

Frusion, I'm with you as I stated in an earlier post on the previous article from yesterday. Again, there is no true acceptance of responsibility by any of these people who are supposed to be working for the public and most important the advancement and learning abilities of our children, not to mention being role models.
Flipside, I agreee with you, although the IT Manager may have made a serious mistake, there is no way that he is the sole problem, having worked in a similar position before and knowing how the education systems work (heck any organization) budgeting and big spending doesn't just happen at one person's judgment, and if it did or does, well, that unearths a bigger problem. Not to mention as I posted earlier too in agreement with you - finding a replacement is going to be a difficult process and hopefully that replacement knows the disaster they are getting themselves into.
I refuse to judge or comment on the qualifications, experience and so on of the individuals involved, because quite honestly I don't know that information. I could have a PhD in Chemistry and still blow up the lab. A degree or certification is only as good as the person behind it. I do agree with you though, justsaynotomath, that you get what you pay for (even though I don't know the salaries of these folks), there is a reason certain folks 'cost' more than others - they (not to mention their current employer) feel they are worth it (and are probably right).
Somewhere along the line someone said something about needing an evaluation of the department. I think it stems further than that and just like the Majik years of the Packers, some serious reconstructing of the team needs to occur. The number of staff is irrelevant to the quality or amount of work they can take on. The oversight of the by the administration is only as good as the amount of involvement they have and the list goes on. I revert back to my earlier comments on yesterday's post and again say that these people need to step up to the plate and take responsibility, quit pointing fingers and work as a team to restore order and some bit of confidence in regards to the technology in the district.

On Walworth County Fair numbers remain strong

I agree that it would be nice to have other alternative options aside from serving booze at the fair. The fair has a lot of meaning to a lot of folks and is a great environment for families and kids. I'm not going to judge or make comment of what should or shouldn't be done as it's not my 'forte' so to speak. Anyhow, here is a good recollection of the fair and just one more reason that alternatives to booze may be a good thing to be considered: http://tinyurl.com/walcofair ...good day everyone!
